What do you own and Why...?

DDR Medium EDC: everyday at work, has deep-pocket carry clip. Hides from sight. Color anodizing makes it look less menacing. It's hell for stout for such a "pretty" folder. 420-V is sharp and holds an edge. It replaced the small Sebenza I had which was too small for me.

Large plain Sebenza: simply the best folder made. Built like a tank and sharp as hell. Just a little bulkier (for dress pants) than the EDC, carry it on weekends.

I like the frame-locks. I've tried everything else and wasn't satisfied. I don't carry a fixed blade.

I have a Leatherman Super Tool. Self explanatory: it does everything!

A few Swiss Army knives (more for the tools). A fillet knife. A few Boy Scout and others I used to collect. They all sit in a box.

I'm no salesman, so if I wouldn't own it, I wouldn't recommend it to you either.

My daily carry varies from time to time but there are certain requirments that have to be met.

Two knives of at least 3.5"
Currently, Both BM's, A 730 Ares for my strong right side, this knife is easy to access yet sits low in the pocket providing a low profile, and is thin enough to show a minimum print, tis knife is also in my right pocket because the blade rests on the inside seam preventing accidental opening,(all my clip knives,(especially Autos) pocket positions, are determined by blade orientation, to ensure against accidental opening.

Left front weak side, sits my BM AFCK

Several smaller blades, one of which must be a multi bladed slipjoint,(currently an old Queen SwellCenter 2 bladed Congress, that sits in the bottom of right pocket)the other either a small under 2" assisted opening/semi auto, or auto.

Watch pocket usually a Chive or a Rocky Moser CA Legal Auto.

Bottom of left pocket a David Boye Dendritic Steel Prophet folder.

Wallet a Spydercard.

Now the reason for my choices
1) All the blades must hold an edge well, this account for the ATS34 in the AFCK, and the 154 CM in the 730 Ares both great steels with excellent edge holding properties,(only drawback,(not really), more difficult to sharpen).

Blade shape is important too, the shape needs to match the task, AFCK is a great slasher/slicer, while the blade on the 730 makes a great utility blade which is another reason it rides in my rt. front pocket.

Some times you need a smaller blade whether it's because of sheeple or work environment, a good example is stripping 18 to 22 gauge wire, sometimes to big is just to dangerous.

I also carry a smaller knife in each pocket because you can't always reach/get to the pocket tha has the knife so you always have an option.

Watch pocket Mini Auto or Chive, I have to admit is just for the neato factor.

Spydercard in wallet is basically a last chance last ditch effort to make sure I have a knife.

I use all my EDC's to some extent through out the day so in my opinion I'm justified in carrying more than one, hell I even forgot my Leatherman Wave , and a necklace folder with a blade under 1".

EDC's - currently alternating between a large Sebenza and a BM 730cfhs. They do everything I need a folder to do and I just like them. Also a SAK Tinkerer and Queen pearl penknife.

hunters - Terry Primos drop point, Marble's bone stag Plainsman, Neil Blackwood small Hybrid on order (c'mon Neil!)

necker - R.W. Clark mini-aikuchi

utility - R.W. Clark aikuchi, Busse BA III coming soon (c'mon Busse!)

bowie - Matt Lamey 7" Camp Bowie, Swamp Rat Battle Rat ordered

Always searching for the best I can get for what I can afford and need. Thanks to SolidSoldier I'll soon have a Spydie to try.

Strangly, both real uses of my RF EDC have been with my BM 350BT... chopping sod, and cutting fuel hose. It rotates with other stuff.

But I'm more likely to have a Kershaw Vapor or VaporII in that position as of now. They have a custom feel, sharp blades, frame lock and GREAT prices!

At this moment my just arrived Mirage is in there, and sliced the tail off a tiewrap a while ago. Only way it stays is if I can get it opening better.

I have a CRK&T M16-03Z, and a Gerber Covert that I like a lot but really don't like to carry where Sheeple are. (And that M16 is a bit tough on the hand that goes in after keys!)

Haven't ever had a use for a fixed blade. Never been a hunter except with a camera.

LF pocket has progressed through the years from Buck stuff, to Gerber LSTs, to Schrade Lockbacks, to right now an Uncle Henry Signature mini stockman with bone handles. (Soon to be a Kershaw Double Cross!)

Haven't latched on to a multi tool just yet. Can't decide. And with a cell hanging on the right, and a pager left there ain't much belt real estate left! (A bit of a gut keeps everything 3 o'clock and farther!)

I use my knives to open packages, cut tiewraps etc. Try not to do anything that I'll need one really badly for.

And I just love flicking and generally playing with my knives!

That's about it !!

Benchmade 806D2 AFCK Plain Edge:

...Because it's the closest knife I've found so far to being THE perfect Self Defense Folder (though I may replace it with a S30V Spyderco Military very soon).

Victorinox Tinker (Red):

...Because it is virtually 'invisible', even to the sheeple. I can use it in front of regular folks and it doesn't get the adverse reactions my AFCK has.

Victorinox SwissTool X:

...Because it's tough as anything, and I can 'fix stuff' with it!

Spyderco Spydercard:

...Because it's a great knife and dissapears into my wallet (more or less) as a back-up to my back-up to my back-up, etc...

Spyderco Fred Perrin:

...Because it is just about THE perfect Concealable Self Defense Fixed blade!

That's my current EDC stuff, I'll edit later to add my other knives and whys...

A John W. Smith large Evolution framelock folder adorns my right front pocket, while a Case Sowbelly rides in my left front pocket. Since I've put my Camillus Aftermath up for sale these are the only two knives I have......what better reason than that to carry them!!:D  :)

I'm going with the what I use, as opposed to the what I have, flow of the thread.

Wenger alox soldier. This is more of a talisman. It was a gift and I've carried it for about 14 years.

Leatherman Juice- stays in my backpack\shoulderbag has replaced most of the funtions of the SAK. Used primarily for tool functions.

Allen Blade packpal- 3" drop point Osage Orange scales. Utility fixed blade, sandwich cutting, cheese slicing, apple coring, nice to have a small fixed blade handy knife.

Buck\Mayo TNT- When I'm dressed as a gentleman this rides in my pocket.

Rick Hinderer Firetac- When I'm not dressed as a gentleman this rides in my pocket.

Branton Brend#2 This is what I carry in the tick woods and the bear woods or when help is a long way away.

Entrek Companion- Stays in the tool box of my truck.

Simonich military Crowfoot. attached by a tech lock to my back pack. A great fishing knife. general all around chore knife frequently trades places with the pack pal.

So, I am reviving it because it serves as a record of what continues to be my (our) favorites. Please see the first post on page 1 to see how my collection has evolved...how has yours?

Now:

  • Swamp Rat "Camp Tramp" - my main military field knife & wilderness blade
  • Queen Winterbottom-series canoe pattern (D2 steel) folder - EDC
  • Spyderco Mouse - occasional EDC / money-clip
  • CRKT M16 (compact spear point) - "woods carry / field work"
  • Remington 'waterfowl' - range & hunting pocketknife, esp. for small game, has Rem-choke tube tool
  • Rapala folding fillet knife (backpacking/fishing)
  • Leatherman Wave - lots of things (usually in the sheath pouch for my CT)
  • Leatherman Micra – also lots of things (esp. the scissors) - on Keyring
  • Ka-Bar 1095 ‘classic’ (the way they were meant to look) - my first military field knife, bought fresh out of boot camp, now retired on my “I love me” wall.
  • Schrade Old Timer (1040T) pen knife - former EDC knife while in college...kept for sentimental reasons, still is a good whittler
  • Ontario 18in. (I think) Military Machette - camping / backpacking / yardwork...
  • Wyoming Saw - well, for backwoods sawing... ;)

Looking back, I probably miss my D2 Arclite (paracord wrapped & black bodycote) in horz. SOB sheath the most...

Leaving aside my collection the following are my users:

Katz Vets in a neck sheath - super sharp EDC for most cutting jobs inc. leather;
SW Cuttin' Horse 007 modified tanto - for all the rough jobs inc. scraping my other EDC;
CRKT Carson F-4 - good for peeling apples;
CRKT Fixed Falcon - lovely little skinner shape for the bunnies;
CRKT HAWK K-at - small but tough really fits my hand I always carry it outdoors esp fishing.
JDEE Bush Baby - one of my own super sharp does most of my leather work;
DOZIER Master Hunter - for the big cutting jobs nothing better.
VicNox Fisherman - does everything esp the scissors always nearby and always when fishing of course.
Original Leatherman - always when I am away from the Shop.

I only have three of the knives mentioned in my post on the first page.

The Leatherman Wave, which I still carry for things I need pliers for.
The Tom Mayos, still the best in my book.

Additions:
Rinaldi TTKK S30V DLC, good working knife thats also tactical
Branton/Brend Boot knife, beautiful design, tactical
Busse SHE with Raptor scales, good working knife.
Simonich Crowfoot, good small utility
Terzuola ATCF, a classic, already been used twenty years by someone else, plan on doing the same.
Strider AR, utility tactical
Strider SMF, Utility tactical
CKT Brend, Love that Brend design

I just realized that I am sort of boring in my carry items compaired to most of you. :o I always have my EKI Lagriffe around the neck for last ditch cutting chores, where I only have on my shorts or whatever. ;)
Day to day cutting chores seem to fall either to one of my Microtech LCC's, or my Amphibian, a little Socom Elite Mini, or the full size Socom Elite. My Camillus Madd Maxx gets a lot of carry and use also, two or three different SAK's are used a lot also.
Fixed EDC's that gets used are a Greco Mk 5, a Puuko I love, a Ronin, a Busse BM, and about 4 of the 25 or so Khukuris I have collected.
Those are the ones that come to the front of my mind at least.

I've had a bit of a purge as well, giving and selling a few from my knife box. My rotation is now;

EDC (City and work) - SAK Soldier. Strong little knife for it's size, sheeple friendly and enough blades to handle most urban situations.

EDC (Country) - Spyderco Military. So light that it easy to carry everywhere. More than enough knife to handle most jobs in the bush and on the beach. My runs often turn into longer beachcombing/salvaging rambles and the 'Millie' is always clipped to the back of my shorts. I have a Spyderco Salt on order and see how this will go in the marine environment.

In my work bag or somewhere handy at home - Leatherman Wave. Any job that this can't handle has me reaching for the toolbox. I've modified the sheath for this with a pocket clip to I clip it on when doing jobs around the house.

Bush/Adventuring - RAT7. Solid fixed blade with good ergos for choking up on and chopping. Usually put the wave in the front sheath pocket for this when I go bush.

Others that occasionally get a run;

Spyderco Native - Really a superb little knife. Amazing cutter and ergos for the price.

Camillus EDC - kind of classy for a budget knife. Usually take it when I feel like carrying something when dressed up.

OK here's the list:

CRK Regular small Sebbie: It's the perfect EDC, IMHO. I can't wait to get it "Mayonized".

CRK Mnandi w/African Blackwood: It's the perfect work/office knife. Very elegant, yet strong and the clip allows for very discreet carry.

CRK Umfaan: I just had to have it. Beautiful knife.

Koji Hara "Lakeland": Just got it. It is extremely classy looking, a great knife for Church and Court.

BK&T 9: I needed a knife that could be used to chop, clear and handle whatever else I meet in the woods.

V'nox: Soldier, Alox Bantam, Pocket Pal, Picnicker, Alox Cadet and small Pocket Pal. You've got to own a few SAKs. Great value.

CRKT Prowler: Excellent all-round beater knife. The LAWKS system makes it a very secure/safe knife to use while doing chores around the yard and house.

Spyderco Endura SE: Can't beat those Spydie serrations when it comes to cutting power.

CRKT Mirage: Another great beater. Tough and inexpensive.

Leatherman: Supertool, Juice S2 and Micra. You have to have multi-tools and I feel these multi-tools give me a wide array of options for various tasks.

I also have 20 knives my late Father had collected. They include a Schrade Walden push-button auto, Boker, J. Rodgers & Sons, M. Klien & Sons, Case and Remington.

I have a folder with Devin Thomas firestorm, and mokume bolsters made by the man himself, a two bladed Bill Ruple folder, and a Microtech M-Socom. Oh, and a custom A.T. Barr little linerlock, with 440c and AEB-L stainless reptillian in the blade, spirograph bolster, and mammoth ivory handle is on the way.

Great thread, it's really making me think about what and why. So here goes.

CRKT M16-03Z: backup/loaner that stays in my backpack.
Spyderco Progrip: backup that stays in my truck.
Gerber Multi-tool: stays in my truck, only gets used when i really need it.
CRKT M16-01F: carbon fiber model, good little EDC for the office.
Spyderco Rookie: another good EDC for the office, the ATS-55 has been great.
Spyderco Military: chores around the house/backup when I hunt.
Spyderco Native: I've had this one for years and don't use it anymore, just haven't gotten rid of it yet, it's been sharpened so many times I don't think anyone would want it.
Spyderco Native III: bought this to replace the first Native, I use it for chores around the house or EDC when I'm not at the office.
Benchmade Mini AFCK M2: EDC for when i'm not at the office.
Bencmade TK-1: neck knife I wear when i'm in the wilderness, sometimes I take it to the office.
CRKT Carcajou Hunter: I bought this to use for a fishing knife, I haven't had the chance to use it yet, I'm not sure I really like the finger hole.
Fallkniven S1: camping/hiking
Fallkniven H1: hunting
Marbles Woodcraft: I bought it for hunting, don't use it anymore.

I think that's it.

Things have changed (besides my user name) since I last posted in this thread......

My main EDC, have it on me always knife is my Victorinox Settler. Since I do a little whittling the small blade sure does come in handy.

The blades in my rotation are:
CRK small Sebenza
CRK small Sebenza classic
CRK Mnandi/bocote inlay
CRK Umfaan

I've been through a ton of knives over the years. I keep gravitating back to sub 3" blades. I have also given up quantity for quality. I find fewer and fewer knives that catch my interest. I'll take a clean, simple design anyday.

All my hunting needs are covered by my Schrade Sharpfinger.
Fishing is covered by whatever Victorinox SAK I happen to grab.

Paul

Strider AR: My main EDC knife; I use it for anything and everything.

Large, leather inlayed Sebenza: Mainly my "dressy" knife, but it gets carried and used regularly as well.

Spyderco Dodo: Usually carried along with my AR in case I need a small blade (read so I don't freak out the sheeple  ).

Benchmade 551GY: Doesn't really fill a specific slot, but I use it often for whatever.

SAK Tinker: Gets taken on trips where a larger knife would be impractical or illegal due to the laws where ever I may be going.

Gerber AR 3.00: Don't use it much anymore due to the malfunctioning lock. It fails the spine whack test miserably, so it just sits in my drawer. This one's a keeper regardless of its condition becuase I got it for my 16th birthday from my parents.
