What do you think about Southern Grind Spider Monkey

I finally got mine last week... And I have to say that I am surprised by this little knife
Quality, Centering, finish are good, no problems
The stonewash and the carbon fiber match together very nicely

The ergonomics have been strange for me at the beginning but it is growing on me....
Actually it is something very "tactical" in the design that I didn't expect when I bought the knife
Very good surprise

I just got my first spider monkey in, and the fit and finish looks excellent except for one thing...the lockup seems to be at around 5%. At first glance it seems it isnt even locking up but it is. It has very slight up/down play but the lock seems tight. I wonder if anyone else has this kind of lockup???

I would not be happy with that lockup. You might flick it open a couple of times to see if it settles in. If not, I would return it.

I am agry with Daniel.
For a liner lock this lock up doesn't feel secure to me...
Maybe you can try to play to open/close it some times to see if their is some improvment, but you may consider to contact SG's customer service

It appears to me the left side of the pivot is loose/has a gap. My try tightening the pivot on that side?

You are the first person. I've heard of with any issues with an SG product.

If tightening doesn't help, send it back for a replacement.

I compared it to mine and it is pretty close to mine, but maybe a couple of millimeters less contact on the tang.

just looked at mine and lock up is a little more then yours but definitely less then gatormedics.I think you will be ok just keep flipping it to break it in a little more.It really is a great knife.

Thanks guys! I'm going to give it some time. If it doesn't break in by 3 weeks, I'll send it back

Just for the record, that was in reference to the employees at Bass Pro Shops and not the folks at Southern Grind. I probably should have made that more clear in the original post.

just my .02. Love the look! But think it's pricey for what you get

bbbut reviews on this are making me want to try it out over the 0562CF!

^^^when you handle one you will change your mind and realize its worth it --titanium frame, beautifully textured cf handles and a sweet s35vn blade---trust me it is a great knife for the price. The overall fit and finish is great.

I have one on the way so I'll let you know then. For now, I say you just pull the trigger and buy it!!

IMO, it's a better value than the Bad Monkey. Yes, it's much smaller, but it has much better steel, and I really like the scalloping of the c.f. scales. One of the only thumbstud openers my arthritis can deal with.

Its also super lightweight.

If you look back earlier in the thread I had this same issue, it never broke in, I sent it back in for a replacement and the were very helpful!

If you read back earlier in the thread I had similar issues. They fixed it so I have no problems with Southern Grind.
