What do you think of MicroTech knives

This is the first time I have something to say and feel I should. I purchesed a MT doc I noticed some small imperfections the type only a collector would. I fired of my 1rst email the response came the following morning it was a RA # and adress to send my new knife also a request for $25. 2nd email I informed them that I purchased from a dealer and it was NIB so why $25.? There reply was in less than 1hour and I was informed because I bought the knife from a dealer NIB the $25 was waved. That was 3 weeks ago. Today I recieved a email that the knife is ready to come home to papa and they will be sending the tracking info. I have read quite a bit of negative post about MTs customer services my experience has been A++. So if they had some problems I would say they have solved them. I hope I helped any body who was on the fence about buying from MT because of the CS reputation. Thanks MT and thanks BF

Old topic, I know, but I like my Microtech QD Scarab from 05/2003 -- at least, I mostly like it. It is my Every Day Carry knife. I don't see the "bronze" color available anymore.

I have had a lot of problems with it not fully engaging on deployment. Fully 1 in 20 deployments fail, and I have to pull the blade out the rest of the way. I've sent it in to Microtech, and they did whatever they do, but it changed nothing. I put in some Rem Oil occasionally, but I'm still disappointed with that aspect of the knife.

Yes, I like the knife. No, I can't trust it. That's unfortunate but works for me since, let's face it, mostly my knife just opens boxes for my kids.

PS: Yes, it's a pretty expensive box cutter.

I have a scarab otf d/e 0885 black on black and mine did the same thing shortly after not locking in either direction, I never called customer service because I saw a lot of negativity with customer service so I made my own little bit and took it apart, first off the thing I noticed was the aluminum residue wasn't allowing my blade to slide well at all and my center screw was loose, well i just took it all apart and cleaned the crud out of it and put a itty bitty drop of oil under the lockers put it all back together and it fires harder than it ever did. Now I can say I trust the knife in any situation, it's my daily and I've had it for ages so maybe you should buy a little bit from them or make your own and clean that sucker and make sure it's all tight. You will enjoy it a lot more after that I promise

It's going to take more than one post to reinstate their customer service. I am hoping they go above and beyond and make up for the past. Noit until I hear that will I trust purchasing from them. But they make great knives. I would buy from them and their sales would increase once they have a proven track record. Customer services needs to be extra good with communication (which in your case even failed when they tried charging you $25.) for a while.

I know if I buy another one it's coming apart as soon as I get it so I can check everything just so I know in my head I can trust it.

Have an Ultatech and really like it. Sent it off to them after buying it for spa treatment. They have given me multiple updates on what they are doing with it. They have given more communication than any company I have dealt with.

But the Ultatech is the only knife they make that interest me. The rest are too big for my taste.

I prefer Pro Tech for autos. Better action and ergos.
Also, they have fantastic customer service.
I have a couple of Microtechs, I would have many more if their CS was decent. In my 2 dealings with them......it is not anywhere near decent. These dealings were last year. Absolutely terrible.

Pretty sure my friend SoCalEDC feels the same.

Old thread is old but i have a couple. But i probably wont buy more unless they change some things. I really dont like their current coatings and i think the fit and finish can be spotty.

The Blade is at Microtech, lol . Really thinking about getting another (carbon fiber hopefully) though in a month. Fun weekend knife.

I figured that one out shortly after I said that lmfao. Derrrt on my behalf lol, I'm just not familiar with all of them yet.

Only two I've bought of recent models are a blue DOC and this one. Both are perfect , smooth opening and the lockup is outstanding. You can't push the locks over period. No blade play, super tight lockup and both are centered perfectly.

Personally don't like the ergonomics on most or the size and weight if the ergo is good. I also have heard whispers of poor service and declining QC from them. I also find the activation on their dual action OTF models are stiffer than I would like. I will add on a related note I am curious about Heretic Knives which for those who don't know is the company started by Anthony Marfione Jr.

I like Protech as a company much better. Customer service is second to none. Not to mention they are a local company and I'm partial to them. Protech doesn't have many OTF's but that's ok..like side openers better.
I do like the Stitch from MT. Just heard about all the CS nightmares.
