What do you think of the Camillus talonite EDC? (pros and cons please)

db - I have my Sebenza into Chris Reeve for some blade work right now. Maybe it'll come back with an S30V blade on it. :) probably not, but it's nice to dream.

It is not a steel to end all, however for a stainless it is very good stuff. and as Buzz likes the ease of touching up the edge on talonite I think he will be happy if he tries S30v. At the least it just may be an option for him. I like him am not a big fan of stainless but S30 acts like a tool steel and I like it.

Hey, db, what size blade have you been using inS30V? Just out of curiosity.

Any chipping at 61? I hate chipping. I'd rather have the edge roll over when I look at it, then have it chip out. Chips in the woods are a bitch.

Chris Reeve must have a reason for the low RC. I can't think of any reason, off the top of my pointed head, to go that low, but what do I know?

I'm in the process of getting a custom folder from Mike Obenauf, Kit's son-in-law, with a S30V blade. I had remembered Samhell and db's knife they got from Kit, and I asked Mike to harden the blade to 61 Rc, just like the test knives Kit did. I am also waiting for a CRK Sebenza in S30V, too--58-59 Rc. There is an interesting thread on S30V on the Sebenza forum right now, if anyone is interested in what's going on at Sebenza land. My speculation is that the lower Rc from CRK is due to production strategy--the higher the Sebenzas Rc, the higher the production time (cost). Nonetheless, I am willing to sample what CRK has done.

I was really debating on whether or not to get a Talonite EDC. This thread really helped me make a decision. After much research I believe talonite would be great in a folder this size. The EDC isn't made for prying but it is made for serious cutting.

I haven't cut anything with it yet but I can say that fit and finish are fantastic. I have a mini talon neck knife and the grind lines on it aren't very good. I believe this has been attributed to how difficult it is to grind talonite. I am happy to report that the lines on my EDC are perfect. Fit and finish are great. It also came scary sharp.

There is only one thing that I would change. I would make the EDC a little bigger. Maybe a 3.5" blade.

Anyway, just wanted to give an initial impression. Now I have to find something to cut. :D

shootist16 - I think you should get a big old cardboard box and pit your 154CM EDC against the Talonite EDC. Let 'em fight like dogs!!!
