What do you think? PIC..

I also like it very much, but I would add some finger notches, on top for your thumb and a few in the back for your little finger. Maybe you could derss some of them up (if they go into production) with exotic woods,ect... And maybe round the guards a little, if it's designed as a neck knife, they might not be too comfortable against your chest.

A knife is no more than an iron tooth

I too like this design very much. If the knife is designed for self defense as well as for utility, then I perhaps would want a 'bigger' guard. Or finger notches to help prevent the fingers from slipping onto the blade. Nice design!

Great design!

Would like to see a photo of the 3/16 " version

Very nice looking! I would add a slightly larger bottom guard. It looks like you fingers may slide onto the blade if you stabbed something hard. I can't say for sure until I got to hold it. Do you do your own kydex work? This is the first good picture I have seen of a kydex sheath. It looks nice. I want to try making one, but I am not sure how well it would retain the blade when inverted.

Glenn

I like it! Maybe in addition to the Micarta, you could do thin neoprene slabs like Bud Nealy uses. I'd also like to see an additional similar size in a drop point. Tht is in addition too not in place of . Let us know price and availablility if you go ahead.

Wow Alan what a neat little knife! It`s really nice as is but since we`re critiqueing my only suggestions would be a moderate index finger groove and laying the thumb ramp down a bit toward the point. Making it smaller height wise and a little longer. I wouldn`t do anything drastic that disturbed it`s lines too much though because it looks so good now. Marcus

For you non-neck knife guys, the sheath is multi-positional, including (according to Alan) micro harness for under the arm carry.

It looks awesome. Narrow swedge looks curious. I assume it is cosmetic. Very tasty.

Beautiful work Alan!

The curve of the blade swedge and tip are awesome as is the overall design. What has been said by the rest of the gang deserves thought(thong hole), but I would not do anything too drastic(thong hole) that would deviate much from what you have done.(thong hole)

I like it as is. However I have an advantage over the rest of you … I've actually had it in my hands.

The balance is excellent and the overall weight is low making it a very fast mover. I think this is a perfect daily carry knife. The handle with the thumb ramp and lower guard work well together and provide a solid foundation for forward movement. The hole pattern also enhances the grip. When moving the knife from the forward to the reverse grip the heal of the hand rest naturally on the thumb ramp. Having a knife that functions equally well in either the forward or reverse grip is a rare find and something that I consider extremely important for a daily carry knife. Alan has hit the mark with this one as his geometry provides both solid stops and comfort anyway you hold it. As always with Alan's knives it was scary sharp and the blade design seemed capable of handling a great deal of stress (although I did not have opportunity to test it … Alan was watching me

). To top it all off it looks cool however, with this knife I think it is more a case of form following function.

Put me down for one.

By the way what do you call it ? …. Is it time for the name game?

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

I think it is time for a name? what do you all think?

I am no good at names... but this thing is light snd pointy and sharp..
smile.gif
so that sorta leads tword something lighter than air and possibly a preditor..

Thanks for all the post about your prefferences in a neck knife, all in all it had been good, I think I am gonna have to make more than one version to make some of you happy..

Alan Folts..

I like it

My only change is to forward ramp the top guard....that way you can cut a few grooves for the thumb but also keep the guard

Why not continue the pattern of small holes to include one more at the very end of the handle, to server as a lanyard hole?

I also agree that the top guard might be less pointy and more textured.

For a name, how about calling it a Kestrel or Peregrine? They're both small and fast, with pointy bits in the right places...

Alan,
Beautiful work! Very elegant. I wouldn't change anything at all. It has integrity to it's function.
How about calling it the "Folts Scalpel" It looks absolutely surgical!

Nice.

... index finger notch, lower top guard, butt pointed down, maybe true false edge/swedge... Is it echoing in here?
smile.gif

But the name is... TWINKLE!

Alan, please e-mail me a price as well. I'm pretty sure I can't afford it, but you never know if you don't try, right?

Names. I gots lotsa names:

Mantis--Deceptively quick, nasty, precise creature and I don't know of any other knifemakers using it (that's my only objection to calling it kestrel, which would normally be pretty cool.)

Fang--Just look at the freakin- thing and tell me it doesn't pop into your head!

Dr. Demento's death-dealing thingamajigger--just checking with that one. Is everybody paying attention?

Anyway, I think it's cool. The only thing that popped out to me was that there doesn't seem to be any kind of index groove or much of a guard, and that blade looks like a puncturing beast to me. But I notice Mr. Evans handled it and said it was excellent in this area, and I know he knows more about this than me.

"Light" saber?

Great design on the knife Alan!
