I've just been using this draw-string bag for my lunch, a bunch of papers, extra glasses, knives, flashlight, crap like that. I'm looking to replace it with something with some pockets. I was checking this out:

http://www.maxpedition.com/product/product_mpb.htm

but it may be a little too big and expensive. Maybe something smaller?

I definately need something that'll hold two 8 1/2 x 11 books, a can of soup and have some pockets for maybe a few gadgets/tools.

Ideas?

.

I don't usually have the need for a man-purse, but I use my Filson briefcase when I do. See my post in Daniel Koster's thread in Gadgets and Gear about custom bags for further info on Filson's stuff.

I use a Filson Med. Field Bag for small loads and a DTC Gear Bag for larger ones. I have a Max. Fatboy I never use and should get rid of one of these days.

I just upgraded to the Maxpedition Typhoon gearslinger for work.
It's nice, slip it over one shoulder and it has more pockets/compartments than I'll ever need.

Tell the truth Jim, You usually carry a Coach purse,:D right

I googled that first one and didn't find anything. Can you link me up?

The second one may be a tad big too.

Here ya go, Filson Field Bag, quality but not cheap (except compared to all my wife's purses!). Not a lot of pockets, though.

Nice, but not manly enough. It looks too much like a purse or diaper bag. I'm not secure enough in my masculinity to carry something like that.;)

Since I'm a professional geek I need a laptop with me 24/7 or at least near by incase I get an emergency call. Right now my Ogio Metro backpack goes in my car everywhere but stays there unless I know I'm going to need my laptop. knife, pen, wallet, and phone are on me 24/7.

When I get my new laptop I'm getting one of these little guys: Booq Bags Folee XS http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=437

that first one you found looks pretty sweet but is a bit big.

ZJChaser,

Where do you work? And in what dept. I'm curiuos, by a ton of local universities. I carry a tumi laptop bag, but that Booq Bag looks pretty sweet.

www.rseven.com is my company. Based out of newport/fashion island next near UCI. Sitting here packing up a bunch of used phone telecom crap I jsut sold. shoot me an IM at ZJChaser if ya wanna chat.

Hmmm. I've got a laptop bag. I don't know if I want to beat the heck out of it with other things. That's nice though.

Still looking for more ideas.

Okay. Okay. I actually wear an old Camelback H.A.W.G. or my REI LookOut when I need hands free operation. Still have my old service web belt with canteen and modded pouches for camera, film, wallet, glasses, and radio or GPS receiver.

it's just, ugh, call it a messenger bag, a briefcase, a laptop bag, anything. Calling it a man purse is just so very wrong, it's always just caught me the wrong way. Ok, so the first time I ever heard the term was on TV with some total flake with a Gucci handbag, so that didn't help, anyway, completely pointless rant aside:o

I gotta carry 2 for work every day, carry one or the other, or as often or not both into an actual customer location depending on what I have to do there.

A Craftsman Toolbag/briefcase. Can't find a the model, so they may not carry it anymore. But basically it has a tool side with tools on both faces of the tool side, and files storage etc on the other in a basically messenger bag style format. Comfortable, roomy enough, and has held up really well for going on 5 years now with probably 25 lbs worth of tools etc in it on average

A Victorinox Laptop case. Can't find it in the line either, but with the way anything electronics related changes thats no surprise. Nice compact vertical style case, lots of pockets for all that little struff you need when you travel alot with a laptop. And a handy, hard drawer underneath the laptop section that is more than big enough for the power supply and a couple misc. cords.

heh, sorry went a little long

I really like the Duluth Trading Messenger Bag that Dijos mentioned, but what I carry more often is literally half the size (and doesn't tempt me to overload), which is the County Comm Bailout Bag.

The main compartment has a velcro-adjustable divider but the big deal with the pockets is, they're on the outside, 8 of them, and a few pen slots, too. Great access to everything without having to root around in the bottom of ... a purse. :p

It took me a few minutes to sew on two D-rings which enable me to convert it from a shoulder bag to a backpack whenever I like.
