I carry a khaki Maxpedition Devildog everyday as my bug out bag. This thing holds a ton of gear and still has room from my daily work stuff.
Left side mesh pocket: Seychelle Water filtration bottle.
Maxpedition M2 pouch attached on the outside: Grundig shortwave radio, batteries, headphones, pen, sharpie, office keys.
Right side mesh pocket: 50 ft of Paracord and Sony PSP, mini flashlight attached to the pull cord.
Front zipper pouch: First Aid tin, Vic.Rucksack SAK, whistle, compass, flashlight, toilet paper, Kabar hobo set, chapstick, eye drops and emergency contact card.
Left Pen holder: sealed plastic tube with fire tinder.
Right Pen holder: sealed plastic tube with weather proof matches.
Large Main Compartment (organized with in interior mesh pocket, etc.: Map case, large poncho, hand warmers, fixed blade (BK11 - Becker Necker), stormproof lighter, large garbage bag, triangle sharpening stone, extra socks sealed in ziplock bag, USB thumb drive, Sometimes my Garmin Etrex Legend GPS, at lease one MRE entree and granola bars. Then I still have room for any work related items and my lunch.
Rear belt compartment: Along with the belt straps are some more hand warmers and a pair of leather work gloves. I use the carry handle or the shoulder strap most often. I reserve the belt for emergencies if I need to hike out of the city.
