What do you use as a MAN PURSE?

For some purposes, I agree with you. On this bag, where access is the key to its usefulness, velcro works just fine.

By the way, FOL, when I counted the pockets, I missed 2. One of the front flaps actually hides 2 small pockets, each ideal for a SAK-sized item.

And the whole front is a hidden pocket accessed by a velcro strip that goes completely across.

I think they designated this for a "hidden" handgun. Considering how they market this to the security community, I don't know how hidden that would be.

Good. Is it big enough to hold books and papers? How about a laptop in a pinch? (In a couple days, I'll know for myself. ;) )

You could get a small laptop in the main compartment along with a looseleaf notebook like I carry.

I had it loaded a bit too much one day -- I don't really like putting lots of weight on my shoulder all the time, but I was out shopping. Then I added a bag of groceries. I couldn't zip the top closed, but it carried pretty comfortably.

I use a Ghurka Safari bag. This is not my picture and the bag looks better once the leather has been broken in.

I bought one of these. They don't look like a purse nor do they look so tactical that I get it searched by friendly security officers. The very heavy duty waist belt slips into a the back panel so my belt is rarely out. I use either the hand grips to carry like a briefcase or the shoulder strap to carry like a pur... er... duffel bag!

It's got multiple organizer pockets and is made of pretty heavy nylon. It is rigid enough to sit up right in the car seat next to me with large, open mouth pockets to get to things easily. The Maxpedition I had was an exercise in packing and unpacking everything just to get to one or two items.

Looks like LLBean doesn't make that anymore. It's very similar to my Mountainsmith lumbar pack. I also have the strapettes that turn it into a backpack. Very nice.

I have just picked up a Jumbo versipack from Maxpedition in kahki since black is too tactical looking for me. This mother holds a ton of crap and I don't feel to gay carrying it since I usually have my two year old in tow and I can stuff his diapers and stuff in it while still keepings my toys in there. The wife calls it a man purse, but she still calls my kilt a skirt. She's a smart ass but I love her. :D

A M18A1 Claymore bag. Nothing says man more than explosives. And just let them swipe it when you go into the airport.

I have a new maxpedition Devil Dog Lumbar pack that doubles as a shoulder sling. it has 500 cu in the main compartment and it is tough. It was given to me and I dont use it. I am going to list it as a trade or possibly buy. I would like to have a Mountain Smith Cairn shoulder bag. Anyway look for the listing.

thanks

Made by Oakley, to hold laptops; there is a padded bag inside for the laptop that could be used alone, and the outside of the bag appears MOLLE compatible; the pouches snap off, and my MOLLE EMT pouch from CheaperThanDirt.com snaps right in place! It looks better than a military surplus pack (in the city at least), and comes in tan, dark red, slate green, black, or charcoal gray. Got mine for a hundred bucks. Flashlight shown for size comparison. I'm looking to string it up for backpack-style carry.

Yeah, I checked that out, too and it looks like you're right, they don't have one for sale anymore. Too bad, it looked really useful and cool, to boot. Liked the forest green.

I really like the Duluth Trading Messenger Bag that Dijos mentioned, but what I carry more often is literally half the size (and doesn't tempt me to overload), which is the County Comm Bailout Bag.

The main compartment has a velcro-adjustable divider but the big deal with the pockets is, they're on the outside, 8 of them, and a few pen slots, too. Great access to everything without having to root around in the bottom of ... a purse. :p

It took me a few minutes to sew on two D-rings which enable me to convert it from a shoulder bag to a backpack whenever I like.

I also have a Bailout Bag and love it. It goes with me everyday. I did take the devider out and removed the velcro straps on the ends. Over time the straps started to curl and since I never used them I just took the off.

I have a couple:
-Filson small field bag
-Kifaru E&E
-Timbuk2 Small Messenger
-Tumi "bodybag"

Matt
Edited to add: Colonel Littleton does make some nice bags. I have the #1 myself. Ghurka is very high class but has gotten progressively more expensive.

Another vote for Timbuk2 from me. My 4 year old messenger bag is almost broken in. And I don't look like a mall ninja with it.

Just curious FOL,...How do you like your County Comm Bailout Bag? Is it everything you wished it to be? Any problems at all? It looks like a nice, handy little bag.

My stuff goes into a Salomon racing pack when I need to carry anything. Sorry guys, can't do the man-purse thing.;) Maybe if I were in the suit and tie world, I'd have to change.
