What do you use more, pocketknife or flashlight?

I know this is blade forums, but I've seen many a thread discussing flashlights. This past weekend I used a flashlight many times, but a pocketknife only once.

Typically, I use a pocket knife to open the mail (includes packages) and for whatever else I need. But I do find myself using the flashlight more often than a knife.

So, what do you find yourself using more often?

Flashlight, but I like my knife more.
^ +1

Fenix LD01 always on the key chain.
PD35 always in coat pocket...

To me, I think it's neck and neck. I'd no more think of leaving the house without my flashlight, as my pocket knife.

Pocket flashlight... :D

I used knives extensively when I worked as a landscape grunt worker years ago but I only had cheapies then.:(

Use the knife more but couldn't get by without my light both at work and at home!

I wish I could get into flashlights but I just can't justify the cost. I've honestly never been in a situation where I've unexpectedly needed a flashlight.

Some of them sure do look pretty though!

I would say flashlight. I cheat and use the flashlight app on my phone so I always have one with me, but it comes in handy possibly a dozen times a day. The situations where I need the knife require a knife, though. I always carry my phone, my knife, and my wallet for a reason. Just like wearing gloves in the winter, better to have them and not need them then to need them and not have them.

Carry several knives daily, but only one FL in the pocket. A larger, back-up light is always in the car, however, and lights are stashed at various points in the house in case of power outage.

To clarify, I carry a Fenix pd32 UE every day. The size is perfect for just about anything I'm wearing and it has more than enough output on the second level (150 lum or so I think) for anything I need. I use it often and people are always asking to use it. Unlike a knife, I don't have to worry about someone doing something stupid with it.

Flashlight. I'm an armed courier and my day starts at 3:45 AM. Dome lights make it hard to see out of an armored truck, but there's always paperwork to do. I do use my knife quite a lot too though.

Always being asked why I carry a flashlight, knife or pen... Usually by a person who's borrowing one of them because all they had was a bottle opener and plastic hello kitty face on their keychain.

Ain't that the truth. I always get the, "why do you carry so much stuff?" right before the, "hey let me borrow your____."

You can find pocket sized flashlights for under $10. I don't want this to turn into an elitist light show, just wanted to others shed some light on the subject.

One could pick up a cheap light in a flash for not a lot of cash.

Definitely knife, though most of the time I'm using my knives at home anyway. I do keep a flashlight in my coat but I don't usually use it that often when I'm out and about.

Flashlight hands down. I own a seasonal business and when I'm in full swing it's a toss up between the two which gets used more. Off season---flashlight hands down. My eyes ain't what they used to be and the Maratac AAA is constantly called upon...

Like Carl mentioned above---I wouldn't think of leaving the house without either one.

I use a flashlight several times a day, every day. But I end up using which ever flashlight is close at hand with enough power to do the job - and I've got lights stashed all over the place, in my office, in the lab, in my workbench, by the back door, in my gun safe, in my cars... This means that I only use my EDC flashlight (a Preon P0) once or twice a day - definitely less than my pocket knife.

Yeah I have looked into it, but knowing myself, I might start with something inexpensive but I'll be spending tons of money on lights before I know it! :o

I would have to say knife, because I never fondle my flashlight. Honestly, I use the knife more to do actual work with as well. But the older I get, the more the flashlight gets pulled out, as others have mentioned. Been carrying a pocket sheath lately for a small FB knife and a small flashlight. Don't leave home without either one.

+1 to this!

My EDC (minus a SAK and I swap out the spartan with other folders). The flashlight is a no-name brand that I picked up from a gun show. $15 and it projects 250lumin. Works great and has never let me down. The most used item in my kit would be my knives over my flashlight. I'm rarely out at night or in the dark because I started working days.
