What do you use more, pocketknife or flashlight?

That's a tough call. I think at times I use my knife more and my flash light less. And vice versa other times. I might use my light more in the winter for example due to the short days , my knife more in the summer due to spending more time outside.

I wish I could get into flashlights but I just can't justify the cost. I've honestly never been in a situation where I've unexpectedly needed a flashlight.

Some of them sure do look pretty though!

I've even used my light during the day when indoors; for example, to locate an item that someone dropped that rolled under shelving... (I'm a helpful guy like that) :D

A light is an invaluable and inexpensive (relative to who's buying what) tool that is an edc necessity IMO. I wouldn't leave home without mine ever.

Here's my two lights, a Peak Eiger with 2 X AAA body and Zebralight SC600. (top of pic)

Definitelly my knives. The flashlight is always in my bag. It´s used about twice a week, if not just once a week. The pocket knife gets used each day - mostly nothing fancy, thoug food prep at work, at least.

Flashlight, I carry and use a Zebralight SC52w every day, many times a day and have a backup Zebralight SC600w in my tool bag. Flashlights these days are like carrying around a drop light every where you go, very bright.

Yeah I just carry a cheap "Utilitech" flashlight from lowes but its 60 lumens and for $3 its been pretty good. BTW has anyone given you shit for carrying that Cold Steel?

I use my pocket knife a lot more than my flashlights. I have a Quark Mini AA that sees more use than my PD35 though (for size reasons).

I use my knife a lot more than the flashlight...I work inside and at a retail store so I don't have much use for the flashlight.

Depends. Some days the knife gets used more, and others the light saves the day. They are two of the most critical pocket possesions.

You can find pocket sized flashlights for under $10. I don't want this to turn into an elitist light show, just wanted to others shed some light on the subject.

One could pick up a cheap light in a flash for not a lot of cash.

Yep, that's certainly true. I have a few decent lights I've bought over the years and when I was working where I needed a light, I always used a cheap $3 Rayovac penlight that ran off of 1 AAA. It worked like a charm and I wasn't destroying my good tools. :)

For the record, I've always used a knife more than a flashlight.

Being honest with myself, I would say flashlight. That being said, I just started EDCing a light and I am not sure what took me so long to do so.

Knife, definitely. I use my pocket knife several times a day, every single day. My torch can spend weeks in my pocket with zero use. Last time I used a light was a couple of nights ago when we had a power outage (typical here in summer).

same here, but I will admit id feel completely naked if I left the house without both

I could say the opposite. There have been plenty of times where I needed a flashlight unexpectedly. Can't say I've ever needed a knife unexpectedly. My light was 70 bucks and has been a better investment than any of my knives. ;)

I'd say they're close but I probably use the light more. I use both a lot at work.

I work rotating shift work so I would say when on nights my light gets used more than my knife. Working days the knife gets used more.

My flashlight gets more actual use than anything else I carry. My pen gets clicked and my knives get flicked, but my light gets used. I occasionally write something down or cut something, but that light.....

I use lights more but I fondle my knives more, I also don't find lights beautiful, no matter how done up they are with trits and/or other embellishment, (don't take this the wrong way) but I find some knives just plain attractive, lights are just lights and are pretty boring to look at, love 'em, have a crap load of lights just like I do knives (tho I do have more knives) but I don't sit around playing with them like I sit around flipping/fondling/playing with my knives.

I would say flashlight. I cheat and use the flashlight app on my phone so I always have one with me, but it comes in handy possibly a dozen times a day. The situations where I need the knife require a knife, though. I always carry my phone, my knife, and my wallet for a reason. Just like wearing gloves in the winter, better to have them and not need them then to need them and not have them.

That's why I carry 2 lights and 3 knives, knives on my keys and in my RRP and RFP, a lebralight sc52 in my LRP and a foursevens quark pro QP2L-X in a home made holster on my belt.

I always have one of my Solarforce frankenlights (usually one of my L2M's) on me, along with whatever knife/knives I'm carrying. Since I work overnight and always have boxes to take out to the dumpster, I'd say they get about the same amount of use.

At work, I use a knife more. Boxes, plastic food product bags, etc. Outside of work, I probably use a flashlight more. Either the Preon Revo SS on my keychain or my smartphone's LED. Cellphone LEDs make great flashlights for getting around the house at night since they provide a very broad and even flood, and are bright enough to get around, yet not so bright as to blind you.
