What do you want in hawk design & materal

I looked at their stuff, Payette, but I'd classify them as axes more than hawks. I mean, they're hawk shaped, but at 2 pounds for the head, way heavy for a hawk.

Not that I'm not thinking of picking one up, I like axes, and am not real impressed with the Hanwei battle axe I bought.

Actually, the hammer polled Iroquois style I already have, I ordered it custom from Fort Turner.

The black Vec hawk, I think, was $200. And I grabbed it as an IGH (Instant Gratification Hawk), i.e. one he had for sale.

However, I've been hitting him up for a Vectorized War Hammer for a long, long time now. ;)

What did the Iroquois with poll cost from Dana ,and long did you wait ?

Man, I don't remember, I think it was $160 including a sheath.

It took a long, long time to get it. He said he was swamped with orders from soldiers for his Roger's Rangers hawk, and kept putting mine off because it was a custom.

Members, could we start a topic by those who know best ,on how to pick the best, belt grinders/sharpener ,How to use them, how to pick hawk hafts/handles,and mount them, sheath making, picking a forge and using it, and hawk decorating , as we have now on cpl punishment, CS hawk mods, which is one of my favorite topic? This should help most of us get the big picture of the art and kraft ,and give us a how too on what it takes to make a good hawk with accessories ,and keep it all in under one topic so it can be easy found?

Sounds great to me. As a new freak in this freak show, it takes a fair amount of digging through threads to find what you need. And for some things, like more advanced decoration techniques like etching or engraving, its not found here. Don't get me wrong, diggin through threads is part of the fun for me, but folks could possibly do a better job or otherwise find it more gratifying if everything you want is in one place. It may be tricky because some of us dont have a workshop, many appropriate tools, or experience with this sort of hands-on work. So a one-topic break down of hawk mods would ideally speak to the broader audience.

Pulrich , this site has member with grate skills, some with specialize skills and other remarkable tomahawkers ,and one brother, maybe they can take time off from work and contrite to the new topic, and we need to get/find an OP/moderator to volunteer to take on this topic.
I we now have volunteer on the CS /TH mod topic that has over 90,000 views , I wonder if he would be interested or some one else?:)

Yes sir, I am hearing the bells. We would all benefit from something like a "Sticky" that can be modified and added to on an ongoing basis. Basically, a start to finish hawk mod sticky. I'll look into involving a moderator if someone else doesnt get to it first.

What would the Topic be called ? Tomahawk How To's ,or Hawk Popery, or something else to cover all that is listed?

I was thinking something like "Modifying Cold Steel Tomahawks: Start to Finish". Would be more than a FAQ; thinking more along the lines of a detailed outline. Reader learns where to buy, what tools are required (minimum tools needed, but also note what other tools can help, and what you could think about if you want to take hawk mods to a different level), and then mods are broken down from simple things like getting head off haft, to more complicated methods related to haft treatment and mods, head treatment and mods. So each section would progress from bare minimum for those that just want to do basic things, to the advanced shop work that people are doing. Addresses needs of full audience here. IMO that's the beauty and draw of this craft, you can get into it and have some fun even if you're not mechnically inclined and your 'shop' consists of some sand paper, an allen wrench set, and a file or two.

Just my $ .02

True, that's more of a war axe head than a tomahawk one-that said they should make a smaller version, that thing would be wicked!

Will members, if they have time draw or post pictures, of what they consenter the best hawk head designs for Utility, CQC and Throwing ?

Check out Citizen Q's thread Longhunter

And that head is very close to what I was talking about, although the blade edge on the custom one I ordered is about 3/4" longer.
