I know we all EDC a knife, their is a monster thread on that already. Although if they took 100 of us, we all would be carrying a different knife. So what does the knives you carry say about you.

Mine says that I don't want to not have enough knife while at work. I was thinking about this yesterday. I EDC a Rukus, and need a larger stronger knife a lot. It's like when I CCW a 9mm vs a 10mm.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone when I say the I EDC a ZT 0560. And although it is more knife than what I really need for (most of) my daily tasks, I like having that extra edge length in an EDC blade, as well as, the ELMAX steel, awesome grip on the handle, solid framelock and smooth KVT system. I think that mine says that I like being prepared for whatever may come during my day, whether I'm at work or not.....

In short, it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. :D

I believe you could ask the same question about what type of wristwatch we wear, what type of clothes we wear, what type of car we drive, etc. And after observing a lot of people's choices I have decided that some people choose their "accessories" based on function, some on aesthetics, some on image, some on price and some randomly.

But considering knives-
when I think about any given knife I think about its size, its cost, its physical attributes such as blade shape and handle shape and material, and its functional qualities such as blade shape, handle shape, lock type and blade material.

When I look at someone else's knife I wonder if they chose that one because they like to buy expensive stuff or they like to be frugal.
I wonder if they choose a small knife to not frighten people or if they choose a big knife so they can do major cutting.
I wonder if they choose a knife with high tech features or if they choose a knife with traditional features.
I wonder if they are interested in the functionality of their knife or if they just want something that might do a little bit of cutting in case they need it.

BM Grip : I'm efficient
ZT 0200: I know what I'm doing, as per family
CRKT SF's: I'm Dangerous, as per friends
CS Spartan : I'm nuts as per everyone I know :D

Well here's what I think for a few choices:

Sebenza: I appreciate a well made tool and want something elegant but useful.
Slipjoint or lockback: I only want what I really need and/or I like traditional designs.
Strider/Hinderer/ZT: I want a tank to be ready for any cutting task. In the case of ZTs, I may also want it at a more friendly price point/availability.
Benchmade/Spyderco/Higher end Kershaw: I know what a good knife is and I like to have a practical tool in my pocket to make life easier and I'm willing to pay a little for it.
Gerber/Chinese made Kershaw: I want a knife but I want it cheap and I may or may not know what a good knife is. (No offense to the Chinese Kershaws, it's just their price and availability often puts them in this category.)
Dagger/boot knife when carried by military/LE: I pray to God I never need this but I want to be prepared.
Dagger/boot knife when carried by civilian: I am a mall ninja, please slap me in the face.
SAK/multitool: I am a multi-tasker.
Emerson: I do The Wave.

Note about the mall ninja remark: This is in good fun and that is a joke... sort of. I do know some people who choose to carry said items who really do deserve a slap in the face.

BM Griptilian: Not scary, and not so small that its useless in areas like the woods.
Prepared for a dash of everything

My knife says Thomas W. is some kind of awesome.

It says that I'm a badass tactical fighter, but please don't tell the teachers because I'll get in trouble.

Mine says...
Mine says......
Nothing, because knives don't talk. I don't usually pull my knives out in front of coworkers, or draw undue attention to myself. Nothing to see here, move along.

Yes he is.
It says that I'm a badass tactical fighter, but please don't tell the teachers because I'll get in trouble.
Or the parents, grounding is imminent. ;)

I don't carry all of these at the same time, but I might carry all of them in the same day.

Spyderco Ansø Zulu - Says that most of my cutting is slicing and not stabbing.
Chris Reeve Ti-Lock - Says that I like to carry a little piece of heaven in my pocket.
Jeff Chaffee custom spearpoint - Says that it makes me feel good to keep this knife close at hand.
Al Mar SLB - Says that I like to keep my dollar bills clipped together.
Beretta Trident - Says that I like a sharp and pointy gent's Wharncliffe knife that is really an unlabeled William Henry. I'm thrilled with the thought that I, an average Joe, can pick splinters with a WH.
SOG CrossCut mini-multitool - SAK for modern times.

If I didn't think I was crazy before just reading my own post confirms it.

Small weiner?

Hahahaha

I like to think of my EDC knife as a mood ring.

+1

I always thought of it sort of like man jewellery, or like a chick with her shoes. At least that's what I tell them haha. I try to pick my EDC according to foreseen tasks, and the people i'll be around, with a little variety just for fun (ok a lot of variety :p ). I wont take my mcusta to work just like I wont take my Manix 2 DLC to a wedding. Thats just me.

My ESEE Candiru says that I don't have to compensate for anything. Unlike some other people. :D
