What does the knife you EDC say about you

True, but I think we all buy knives that make a statement about our personal tastes in one way or another. Otherwise we would only need a few knives each, and they would be utilitarian in every sense of the word.

And that is not a world I want to live in ;)

I don't really mean what others think. I don't buy knives to be a show off, atleast not the carry ones. Although I do think some knives say something and are special or atleast can be.

My EDC's say that I have been refining my tastes for over 60 years, and that the materials, utility, craftsmanship, artistry, and ease of maintenance have come a long way. I am quite satisfied with many factory offerings, but I do not hesitate to modify them or order customs. The fact that I rotate through the pile means that the perfect knife has not yet been fashioned, but the chase is endlessly fascinating. I am a tool nut, and the knife is the most interesting tool.

My knife doesn't say anything... buy it's got Benchmade written on the clip.

Hrm. Mine says I like classy cutlery? I was carrying my Military AND my Swayback Jack at work for awhile, trying to use the little one for everything, the Millie was for lunch and "just in case". But my SBJ must've slipped out in a customer's seat the other day, nobody has been back to return it yet, probably gone for good :( So now it's just the Millie.

Dream knife.

Mine doesn't say much, but I heard it singing an old 'Blondie' song the other day:

"One day, or another, I'm gonna getcha... I'll getcha... I'll getcha!"

Yeah, I had dulled it's edge cutting down more cb boxes... I know, that's what boxcutters are for. Dull knives are dangerous... I got out the Spydie Sharpmaker. At least I don't hear it complaining about the other knives I EDC... anymore!

Of my Keith Johnson lannys clip that rides on my belt every day,

To non knife people: That fella there carries a knife.

To knife people: That fella there carries a knife, but it's a nice one and it looks like it gets used a lot.

Ben

;) That sir made me laugh out loud . You pretty much summed it up .
I also like to think that my edc choices show that I have gained at least a little wisdom over the years and that I have been able to separate my needs from my wants .

I think my EDC would say that if an Armageddon were to come down up on us, I’d be caught with my pants down, unprepared as they come. Unable to build a shelter with it, kill and process a wild animal, defend myself against a strong zombie, and might die from hypothermia, unable to baton through a log to get to a dry stuff.
But when a need arises, I can peel an apple, and slice a mean tomato for my sandwich.

I think what just about every EDC knife says is "I'm prepared!"

What my personal EDCs say is "He's paranoid!"

... I've found ways to carry up to 7 knives without it being noticeable :p

Now that is what it's all about. While so many of us are fantasizing, you are simply getting good use out of your edc.

my candiru says I like OD green, fond of kydex, have a fetish for ESEE knives, and know how to sharpen a knife. :D

My Spyderco Tenacious says to the waitstaff, keep that dull 'steak' knife, I've got this.
My SOG Flash II says that I'm just as handy with my left as my right (tenacious in the right pocket, flash ii in the left).
My S2 Juice says "Yes, I have pliers AND scissors."
The leatherman mini means I didn't forget my keys.
And last but not least, my Cold Steel Bowie Spike says that it you put your hands on me, you'll lose.

The Para Military 2. I'm thin and light weight, but still able to complete the toughest tasks when I need to :)

Mine says that I need to have a tool on me to cut things with.

The most accurate one in the thread.

Alas, not everyone perceives this in the same way...

The answer on the OP question differs accordingly to whom you ask the question. Self-representation is a strange thing, you see. Opinions of other knife people on a person carrying a certain knife will differ as well. Not to mention the opinions of non-knife people.

Mine says very little. It was custom built for work and to the average viewer it is very un-impressive looking.

I am not at the stage of collection where I buy knives that make a statement...my knives are all slaves that know to shut up and get to work.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone when I say the I EDC a ZT 0560. And although it is more knife than what I really need for (most of) my daily tasks, I like having that extra edge length in an EDC blade, as well as, the ELMAX steel, awesome grip on the handle, solid framelock and smooth KVT system. I think that mine says that I like being prepared for whatever may come during my day, whether I'm at work or not.....

In short, it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. :D
The same for me, but it's an 0200 instead of an 0560. Got my eye on one of those, though. :p

My early "P" small Sebenza might say I love simple reliability. There seems to be so little of it these days.

PS. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, and your loved ones. Bud
