What draws you to carrying a knife?

I carry 2 fighting knives, a traditional slipjoint, and a Ti credit card knife in my wallet... 4 is easy :D
Exactly 👍 I have my Curtiss Nano flipper, my Boker Kwaiken and Shirogirov 95 Flipper...I want to take one more with me [emoji2]

I've carried a knife daily since my dad gave me a brand new Cub Scout knife for my 8th birthday, and I'll be 62 next week. The only exception was during Army Basic ans the Police academy where they wouldn't let you carry anything you weren't issued!

By any chance: do you have this CC/knife open or maybe a action video? [emoji106]

I carry one because growing up my father always had a knife and so did my grandfather. I just look at it like that is what a man should have on him at all times.

I have carried a knife since my dad turned me loose with a small fixed blade on my fourth birthday, 65 years ago. I grew up in a rural area, working for farmers and my grandfather at various tasks. It was an essential tool to me. It could open feed sacks, clean fish and game, neuter pigs, clean your nails, peel an apple, and on and on.

I also come from a time and place where a boy who didn't have a knife on him was considered rather odd, where if a teacher asked for your knife it meant that he had left his at home and needed to cut something and you would get it back when he finished.

It is definitely not a romanticized thing, or macho, or to impress. It is to cut whatever needs cutting. It is also a lifelong habit, and a good one.

Somewhere in that text is the origin of the "spey" blade profile ...
I wonder how many that carry knives today might guess The River Spey to be that origin (I say guess as it would be incorrect).
I remember as a very young boy when I first witnessed to true purpose of the mighty but diminutive spey blade.
Appreciate your post my man ;-)

Out of habit and edc I guess
Been carrying since I was a kid so having no knife feels incomplete

You are a fascinating, candid human being, and I genuinely like you because I feel like you genuinely portray yourself. Thank you.

I thought the same thing. I didn't realize the extent of your problems (other than wearing a vest all the time) I'll pray that you get better and maybe when times are better I'll purchase a knife from you.

Best Regards,

I have been carrying a knife for 45yrs.. What was the question??? :D John:cool:

I carry a knife for the same reason a caveman chipped the first stone. It made every day life easier.

To summarize what I think most of us are saying, we carry knives because they are very helpful when you need to cut something.

Because having a knife is useful. I started carrying one when I was thirteen. I used mine to cut the newspaper straps for my paper route, sharpen pencils at school, while out fishing, etc. I actually stopped carrying any pocketknives for a few years during my late teens, as my interests turned to other things. :)

I remember in junior high school, lots of boys and even some male teachers carried a pocketknife and it wasn't thought of as scary or weird. It was normal.

I began carrying again in my 20s and haven't looked back since.

Because of their mechanical beauty. I like having beautiful things around me and knives are much cheaper and less pretentious than watches. I also like carrying a nice pen.

Personal habit. I grew up on a cattle ranch and always had a knife on me for tons of different daily uses and needs. I've probably carried a knife since I was 6 or 7 and I'm 45 now. Today, I live in a city and still find that I still use a knife almost everyday for various small tasks. Just what I prefer.

Granted over the last few years I have started to "collect" knives and have quite a few fixed blades and folders now. Nothing super exotic or custom. Before that, I typically just had 1 or 2 knives at most.
