What draws you to carrying a knife?

I like this question OP....I have a # of reasons. Like many have said, I carry a knife for daily cutting tasks...but really, I could carry a pocket knife for that. I only carry fixed blades, & I do so because I just freaking love to. I like showing my awesome customs off, I like feeling like a ba-dass everywhere I go - because my low self-worth doesn't allow that feeling naturally, I even like the occasional looks I get....I imagine they're thinking "oh my goodness, he's got a big knife on him in the grocery store...I find myself both frightened & aroused". Now, I don't know if those men are really thinking that, but hey, they might be. And as I saw someone write earlier in this thread, I really do feel naked without one of my fixed blades on my hip. I just love everything about open-carrying my knives.

I carry a knife because it is an extremely practical tool. Everyone should carry a knife.

When I was 7 my Grandpa and I were working in his shop (Grandpa was working, I was being mischievous) and I needed to open something so I asked to use his knife. And he said " it's time you learn something, there's three things a man has to have on him at all times: his belt, his billfold, and a knife. 17 years later I carry one whenever is legally possible. It's the third most used tool on me in a day after my tape measure and screw gun.

OK. I did not read the full thread, but a long time ago, a member here posted something similar to this: "when I was a younger person at my first job, I watched a coworker stab repeatedly at a taped package with a ballpoint pen in a futile effort to open it, and was immediately reminded of a house fly, that throws itself, again and again, at a sunlit window in a pathetic attempt to free itself. Only to die on the windowsill. I will not be that fly." Another post here, years ago,and I'm paraphrasing, but: "God, in his infinite wisdom, somehow overlooked the notion that He should equip me to adequately deal with my environment."

The Gods taught us to forge iron so that we would not be slaves.

Thanks for the hearty laugh. :D

I always carry a fixed blade, but it's usually my tiny Super Edge on my keys. I want to start carrying smallish (sub 7" OAL) fixed blades as my primary carry knife , and plan to do so in my pocket with a wallet chain attached to the sheath. Belt carry would likely get me in big trouble where I live.
