What folders do you have ABSOLUTE confidence in?

With ease the best knife I have ever owned, Spyderco Paramilitary 2. When I first got it, I questioned the compression lock and how well the knife as a whole would hold up to heavy use, especially because of how light it is, but this is the best knife I have yet owned and I am confident I will only have to get a new knife because I want to, not because this knife can't do everything I need it to

As it relates to dependability, I'd say every CRK folder I have will fit the bill. If its hard use you're after then my Strider SNG CC has been supurb. That's along with my Spydie Para 2. I've literally pried a door open with the strider and it smiled and asked for more.

I have all sorts of folders but I would never have "absolute" confidence in any of them. I have more confidence in fixed blades but even that isn't "absolute" because even a Busse can break.

I have a lot of confidence in these three. They all have perfect lockups <50%

DDR Trigger Maze,Large Regular Sebenza & a Hinderer XM-18.

The folders I rely on the most and have the most confidence in are the CRK Sebenza and Umnumzaan. I have owned many CRK and folders from several companies and to me, nothing compares to the design, ease and comfortable use in their intended task. Plus they look great too....! Hinderer are right up there as well. ZT are pretty good too. The couple Striders I have had were new lemons and trying to get customer service to fix them, was non-existant. Though they have their following, they are not for me. If I am spending that kind of $$, I wanna know that the company will stand behind them. With CRK & Hinderer, I know I will get that.

Too many pretty knives in this thread.
Here is my ugly, beat up, well used Commander.
My dedicated work edc has never failed to perform.

Hrm... Interesting question.

Confidence has many different aspects.

The blade has to handle what I'm going to face. Cutting boxes, making feather sticks, bend cutting brush, spreading butter, reaching to the bottom of the Nutella jar, cutting potatoes, perhaps batonning some kindling. You'll notice opening paint cans and prying apart crates isn't on my to-do list, at least not with my knife. <shrug> So sue me.

The handle has to be comfortable enough to be used for extended periods of time without hurting. It has to not hurt when I press hard, really, really hard into wood with it. Large and round is best.

It has to be light. Light enough to travel. Light enough that I won't think twice grabbing it and stuffing it in my pocket.

The joint and lock have to be bullet proof. Has to be durable enough to withstand stupidly hard cutting without developing play.

It needs to be able to withstand being dragged through dirt and sand without interfering with the lock. If I can't trust the lock when it's fouled with sand, I won't trust the knife.

Looks matter. I have to be confident that when I pull it out, people won't freak out. Otherwise, I'm likely to seek alternatives.

It needs to be not too dear. I've lost a bunch of things in my life, including knives. It sucks. Sucks more when it's a piece of jewelry. Forget that. It's a knife. Not my stinking life statement. If I loose it, my life carries on.

One knife for all this? Sure. No problem. Opinel #9.

Nice post comeup. I'll agree with you on the GB, it's a no nonsense beast. I sold mine but plan on acquiring another. I would also add the BM Adamas and the ZT 0550. I'm sure there are countless others but these are 3 I've owned and never doubted their abilities.

My most recent battle is trying to convince myself why I should have these beasty folders. I don't doubt them in the least but given that 95% of the time my knives are performing light-to-medium duty tasks I'm starting to lean towards lighter built but still great quality folders. Right now I'm on a Spyderco Sage 1 kick. Freaking love this knife. I have my first Sebenza 21 on its way and I really hope this Sage doesn't spoil me into thinking the Sebenza isn't worth it. We'll see shortly.

Again, nice post.

I've never had a folder fail me, even the scout knives I abused as a kid. Currently, I'd trust any of my folders to stand up to any cutting duty: CS Voyagers, Buck 110, Sebenza 21, BM Mini-Rukus, 710, Griptilian, Case Sodbuster.

As long as I do my part by keeping them sharp I have confidence in all of my knives.

Spyderco Manix 2
Benchmade Adamas
Buck 110

As someone else has already pointed out, all folders have some weakness. For the Adamas its the Omega Springs, for the Manix its the polymer "cage" holding the ball bearing, and for the 110 it is the spring in the knife or the blade tip depending on who you talk to. That being said, I trust those three with 99.9% confidence to work when I need them to work.

I'd love to have a Steve Ryan.
