What got you into Becker Knives?

Oddly enough I bought my first on a whim, thinking it was a little thing I could piggyback on a kabar 1221..didnt fit, and it outlived the 1221.

After doing some research for a do all indestructible knife I purchased the bk2.
Had no idea it would become somewhat of an addiction and community.

Same here. He can be persuasive.

You should have said no. :D

Moose isn't quite the marksman that Psyop is. I didn't want to push my luck, just in case .

Wanted a serious camp knife....bought the 2, found this subforum, became a Beckerhead......never looked back.

Pretty much the same as above. Was looking for a serious knife to take with me to the woods, found this site and the thread about the BK2 testing. Was convince after reading, I required a knife I could use to recycle a fridge, stove, or cinder blocks.

My parents ended up getting me one for Christmas, and I've been here ever since.

It's a long story starting more than 45 years ago and some stitches in my 4 year old finger (only time I've ever had stitches from a cut, surprisingly) and involving a Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife (yeah, I'll admit it) a couple of years ago....that ultimately led me here, to this most excellent crew, and a BK-9. Bigghoss is very persuasive; there were lots of posts about "can't not have a 9". Mostly, what got me into it is this subforum and the people here. Real, actual people that I've met at gatherings, talked to over the phone.....they're not just avatars and post counts. It's a rare and precious community that's coalesced around Uncle Ethan, and I feel lucky to have become part of it.
That and all the other reasons listed here. You're not going to have more fun with a sub $100 slab of steel than a 9 (or a 4). And even though I don't expect to be in a survival situation, I'd trust my life to my Beckers. And the 11 has a beer opener and a sharp end for slicing sausages and cheese, and you can wear it like jewelry.....who can argue with that kind of utility and style?

In truth, this forum.

I could not hunt easily where I was living (Honduras) and got more into bushcraft to get my outdoor fix. I bought a BK2, but preferred other knives to it for outdoor use. That being said, I was struck by the craftsmanship and cult following for this knife. That led me here. After reading about the different models and their uses I bought another, then another, then another. I was also impressed with Ethan's engagement with his "fans" and willingness to unfailingly stand by his product.

A little over a year, and many Beckers, later, the rest is history.

Many here are outdoorsmen (and women) but perhaps not all.
All here are obviously gearheads - certainly in regards to knives.

That said, What got you into Becker Knives specifically?
.

This forum. I was wanting a hiking companion in case i needed to spend the night out in the woods for whatever reason. There was no question what i was getting. BK2...Ethan's designs and tbh, Ethan himself are the reason I decided on a Becker over Esee or anything else. Never mind the fact I can affordto actually buy a BK.

One of these days I'm driving down to SMKW to meet the man himself when he spends sometime there.

I saw a video review of the BK2 by David with Ultimate Survival Tips. This piqued my interest, but no one locally carries them and I didn't want to buy one until I could at least hold it in my hand. A couple months later, I was at a gun show and a vendor had a BK2 in his case. As soon as I held it, I knew it was a must have. So comfortable in hand, it felt like an extension of my arm. (and I got a great deal on it)

I think it was this place, sort of....
I had a few Beckers long before I found this site, and this subforum, but the people here - their stories and pictures - really piqued my interest. Of course, once I got my first BK16 & started playing with it, the knives spoke for themselves

For me it was the Ka-Bar 1249 Kukri machete I received as a Valentines day gift from my lovely wife. After thourough machete research it seemed the best bang for the buck. Even though its a foreign built blade, it was fantastic and made me want another Ka-Bar but this time a sturdy American Blade. Same as everyone else...research...decided on the BK2-christmas, loved it! then BK9-Christmas, bk14-Valentines...bk15-greed...bk5-ADDICTION! Then theres the 1244, ZK set, MK-1 leather-valentines, short tanto for the daughter...but the Beckers always get the road trips, campout, yard work, etc...
Thanks for this thread! Got a lil tear in the corner of my eye, just one eye...:sorrow:

For me it was something akin to "destiny" lol.
Growing up my family did a lot of camping and travel, so I naturally decided (as a 4 yr old visiting Mexico) that I needed a machete; my dad said I had to keep track of my Swiss army knife for 12 consecutive months before he'd even consider it, so as it happens I was 7 when he got my first "big" knife - 3" camp knife (no name).
The years added (& with it my collection); I finally got my machete when I turned 16 in the Philippines!

At 20 teaching Wilderness Survival at Summer Camp I was introduced to the KaBar my USMC cousin had told me so much of, but I didn't "love" the grip. I started looking for other quality camp knives and found ESEE, but before I could save enough I got married, and at the reception my best friend said "MY wife says I'm breaking wedding rules by giving you this, but... I remember when we were kids knocking around the Michigan Forrest each summer you'd always bring me souvenir knives from your latest trip, and I hear you're back into "survival stuff" so here's some good old AMERICAN steel!" At which point I opened the gift-wrap to find a BK7. It was love at first sight! Lol

I've since carried it in a thigh rig hiking in OR, on a Shoulder rig in the Balkans, and now with a Florida CCW I plan to carry it IWB as soon as I make a Kydex sheath... It's a carry-worthy knife!

Looking for DIY Micarta scales brought me to this forum, and a Google Image Search included a BK7 Bayonet by Murphnuge and TMHunt, and every cool BK7 mod kept bringing me back to this forum, and when I realized that my "custom" EDC knife design looked almost EXACTLY like a BK10 with a finger-loop I decided I should join, and when I found this thread I thought "what the hell, I'll do my introductory post here" and four hours and countless words later, all I've said really just boils down to "destiny". lol

Sorry to drag it out, I'll try to keep future posts short (and only write when I'm awake, lol)

As I’m probably one of the newest owner of Becker on this forum (2 days) it is easy to recall my journey. I began to get involved with knives a few months ago when I picked up a Kershaw Leek and Spyderco Dragonfly as EDC blades. After carrying a knife daily, I began to have an itch to explore the outdoors. I grew up in the country on the East Coast of Canada yet had never spent much time outside. I was a very academically minded kid and spent way, way too much time studying. I then spent 10 years at university which dominated my twenties. Now, having a toddler of my own I really want to explore the outdoors with him after he gets older.

I knew I had a lot to learn so I began to read lists of “Best Survival Blades” and the BK2 came up over and over. I began to do more reading and watching Youtube videos, and decided that a ¼” thick blade was overkill for my purposes (for now) but the Becker line really called to me. After much deliberation, I pulled the trigger last weekend and ordered my 10. Three days later, it showed up in the mail, and every time I hold it I grin from ear to ear. Once the snow has died down (have you seen how much snow we have out here??) I’m going to go home and explore the land around my parent’s house and get to know how to learn to use the blade.

I’m also planning buying my uncle a BK16 for his birthday in April. Just having a discussion about it over in this thread.

Anyway, I’m really glad I found this forum. I am looking forward to one day joining the ranks of Beckerheads, and of course, adding more Beckers to my collection. I’ve heard something about those BK-9’s… :)

Pharm, my journey was very similar to yours except I did go with the BK2 last Christmas, this Christmas I got the BK9 and asked for gift cards from others. That combined with coupon codes, this month I ended up adding the 14,15, and today the 5 arrived. Get ready for the ride and welcome!

A broken Kabar 1217 that had been through the mill, a slow counter worker at SMKW, and a wandering eye......

Moose

Sometime back I was looking to replace my USMC Kabar, as I no longer wanted to use it. It has increased in sentimental value too much. Many of you probably understand.
So....I end up buying a Camillus made BK7..... Wow !
So now I have a Kabar made 7, a 15 and a 16.
I really appreciate the thoughtfulness put into these knives.
I often compare the Becker line of knives to my 91 Toyota pickup with the excellent 4-cylinder engine.
Well designed, very little maintenance is needed and they do what they were designed to do.
What else does one need ?????
