What got you into Becker Knives?

I was looking for a larger knife for camping with my wife. I ended up with a 7 a few years back. Then this past Christmas I got a 16, and think it is a good size for around the homestead. Then a last week I got a 15 since they were on sale for crazy money.

That is where I am at. The 7 does not get a lot of use, but I have used the 16 a lot around our place. The 15 will get delegated to camp cooking and for use at the house we are building as a kitchen knife until we get an actual kitchen set up. Right now we sleep on the floor of where the kitchen will be, and use a small propane cook stove to cook. It is nice when we get to come into town for amenities. :D

I do not know if I will get anymore knives anytime soon, as I don't need much stuff as I am not a collector, and I have more important things allocated for my money like buying cabinets, sinks, toilet, flooring, etc. Plus we need to get a tractor this spring. Hehe.:D

These three knives (7, 15,16 ) will cover pretty much everything I need to do around our property. What more can you ask for?:D

Years ago I ran across a review of the BK-10 online and I was totally sold on the concept- a rugged blade made of good quality steel and the big burly handles at a reasonable price- I was IN! I bought the BK-10 and immediately hated the sheath- I felt like it was such a mis-match to a high quality blade and I didn't really know how or where to get any other sheath. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of a resource like bladeforums and eventually sold the knife on ebay- but the feel and heft of the Becker blade stuck with me for years. I ended up finding bladeforums and realized that I had tons of options if I hated a factory sheath and eventually a BK2 found its way to my house and I began to mod it for personal taste, and it was soon joined by many others- BK7+9 w remora, 2 BK-11's and a BK-16. I have trimmed the herd a bit- no longer have the BK7 and I find that the two blades I end up carrying the most are the 16 and the 11( the 16 may be my all time fave blade!). Now I try to encourage the idea of owning and carrying a quality blade whenever I am able- I have given a few BK-11's as gifts to friends who like to be outdoors and I usually contribute a NIB Becker to the annual auction for my Trout Unlimited chapter. I hope to own at least one Becker blade til the day I leave the earth.

The prices and versatile designs. When I was looking for my first fixed blade I remember looking at the 7 first. I then saw a Ontario Rat 7 and a Buck Punk from the same seller on ebay so bid and won on both for combined shipping.

I honestly didn't want a Becker at first cause don't like to have stuff everybody and there mother has and since BK's a so dang popular:rolleyes: I had a arrogant stance towards them.

First BK ever got was the 24. Bought used for $40. How can you beat a d2 blade for $40-50? Retorical ?. At this time I only had like five knives over $20. I bought a Benchmade 275 that I wans't sure that I wanted to keep since beening at the time what I thought was an expensive knife and didn't want to beat on that so wanted to try D2 at an insanly affordable price.

Very much exceeded my expectations.

After getting the 24 got a 2 then another 2 then 9/11. My addition was spiraling out of control. :D(BHNSA BH's Not So Anonymous) Was selling my blood, a kidney and doing "favors" for cash to feed my BK habit. BK's are so cheap you can't tell yourself "I DON'T NEED ANOTHER ONE!"

Rat got sold very quickly after that and the Buck got traded as well. I don't really own alot of other fixed blades besides BK's.

BK's are like Glocks. So many ways to customize them so you can have your own unique BK (if your a arrogant bastid like me and don't want to have the same thing as everyone in the crowd).

All I know is I have like <10> BK's now and am a happy camper. Can't go wrong with them.

I saw a video for the BK11 online, as I was researching small knives for EDC. Still have that sucker and it's still in my EDC rotation, to this day.

Was looking for a rugged sheath knife, made of quality materials for a decent price. I first found the ESEE line, but was too rich for my wallet at that time.
In a review for a ESEE blade I found a reference for something called a Becker BK2. A quick Google search later and I was hooked! KABAR's reputation as a quality blade manufacturer is what really hit it home for me. Bought my BK2 and have yet to regret it! Now have a BK7 and 14 besides. Love them!

I have used ka bars for years, I trust and respect the company. The Bk 16 just seemed to fit as an all around knife for my needs. Woodcraft, fishing and hunting. I got the 10 to just abuse, and it surpassed my expectations. Now the 10 stripped, lives in my kitchen and cuts potatoes, sweet potatoes and carrots, it works great. The price was good as well.

I was searching for a replacement for my trusty old junker camp knife and google sent me to this forum. After reading a few posts the bond formed between man and Becker was obviously strong. Ordered a King that night and the rest is history. 9,13,24,16,2,4,5,15 and more soon I am sure.

tldr; you all did

The Camillus knife web sight years ago. Looking for a good folding hunting knife, I came across the Becker Necker. I kept putting off buying the knife, then Camillus folded. Ounce I found out Kabar was carrying Becker knives, I immediately bought the BK11 and love it. I have been a Becker fan ever since.

I wanted to be like the man himself.

My story started out with wanting durability..after some investigating i settled on esee ..just for the warranty...after having my esee3 for a bit ..i never like the ergonomics of the handle shape...so i started over..and decided "well, hell with ill go get another usmc kabar...ran across a bk7 at a gun show and as soon as i got it in my hand it was a done deal..

I was doing some research on modified machetes, and kept running into pictures of BK2s together with machetes. That brought me to this subforum, where I started reading about the 2 and other models. In a short time I decided I wanted a Becker, but could not make up my mind between the 2 or the 7. Around the middle of August I saw an ad in the exchange for one of each, so I contacted the seller and got them both. About a week after that another member her posted a modded BK2. Emailed him and came away with it. In early September got a used 14 for a song, two weeks later an almost new 16, in October another used 14. By now, you all know how this is going to go...

On a serious note, when you compare Beckers to others in their category you just can not find better value for the money you are spending.

Last week I read a thread in the General Discussion Forum where the OP was asking why anyone would buy a production knife over a custom and the first answer that came to mind was "Find me a custom that compares to the BK7 for the price".

Since Beckers first showed up in the 80s/90s Cutlery Shoppe catalogs i always said "thats cool i should buy one." but i never did. Thats through the early years +BlackJack versions and into the Camillus versions. When Camillus went belly up i kicked myself and said "why didn't i ever buy one?". Luckily for me sometimes afterward i noticed the Camillus blade blanks showing up on ebay and the forums . Bought 3 BK-2s and a Patrol machete blank. Buddy has one of the BK-2 blanks and i finished the other two myself, love those BK-2s! Then Ka-bar versions came along and this time i made sure to buy them, two BK-11s and one BK-9. Just last night i used an Amazon gift card to pick up a BK-5, looking forward to using and modding that one!

We all got here in so many different ways - but here we all are. Thank you Ethan!

The never ending search for the perfect do everything knife (:D). Videos and reviews on the Internet pointed me to the BK2. It is only about the jillionth attempt to find said knife, but just about the closet thing to it yet.

Then I found this forum and all of you got me excited for the others. I am loving the HECK out of my BK24. I'm at it's feet, just at it's feet.

Years ago I picked up a kabar d2 extreme and carried it in the woods, used it camping and for hunting, didn't care much for the serrations so I bought a ontario rat 7. Carried the rat 7 for a couple years, it was ok, didn't like the handle so I eventually bought a bk7 for woods carry and a bk2 for hunting. Been quite happy with them, great price to value ratio and since the price is very manageable I am able to buy a bunch of them without much impact to the budget.

Been playing with the bk9 lately and it is on it's way to unseating the bk2 as my favorite becker.

I had an idea of what I wanted in a knife but never quite saw one that stood out for price and substance, searching on YouTube randomly one day I came across a YouTube video review and 'flash!' I instantly saw what I was looking for - a BK2. Read/watched other reviews and knew I had to import one. One hellova knife, only let down is crappy floppy top part of sheath, but knife itself is excellent.

I found Becker knives because I really wanted an all purpose knife that was durable and made in the US ( I'm not even the kind of person to be picky about that either.) At First I wanted the USMC Kabar but with it's tang and the fact that there's videos on it breaking I decided to pass. I then ran into PM101's rave reviews on the BK7 , the BK7 was pretty much what I was looking for so I pulled the trigger. I've had it for a year or two now and love it. Unfortunately it's the only Becker I own , but I would love to get another at some point.
Here's a picture

As you can see I've modded the crap out of it.

I am going on my first real hunting trip in October to Colorado for Elk hunting.

I have had several folding knives/pocket knives and not always easily satisfied. I spent hours and hours researching my first fixed blade. I decided on a BK16 as I wanted something light and that I could use around home as well. I love it so far.
