That was freakin nuts!

It is. There's guys that do "fast draw" with slingshots too. There's a video of a guy with the ss under his belt. He was literally dropping a washer, with a piece of tape over the hole, drawing and loading the ss, and on his 5th try, put a ballbearing through the center. He actually hit it every time. I also remember a guy, perhaps the same gent, doing quick draw, throwing a can over his head and behind him, drawing, loading, as he turned around, and could shoot the can before it hit the ground. Sounds crazy, but they can do it.

Here's the video shooting through a washer:

Here's the can guy I was talking about, doing fast draw, shooting 2 cans:

How about hitting a can twice before it hits the ground:

Oh yeah baby...

Good lord, that guy is amazing.

Amazing might be pushing it just a little bit.

dang, it appears that slingshots are all but illegal in my absurd little state.

Hey Dubz,

Can you explain the functional differences between using surgical tubing and bands for those slingshots?

This caused other issues, because gluten-free depends a lot on corn and soy, which are far worse for her condition than wheat

well, not so much...

gluten free just means not eating stuff with gluten. there's "no depends on corn or soy" - unless she's a pure vegan, then she's got choices to make.

a lot of vegans i know, have gone to being just vegetarians (eggs, cheese, fish), and do alright.

some have gone full carnivore and have not looked back...

on the of the aspects (but not requirements) of the so called Paleo movement (aka caveman style diet), a refinement of the low carb diets: there's this small set of things you can eat, anytime, all the time, that are GOOD for you, and you can add more to that, but don't have to; there's sadly 95% of the stuff in a grocery store you shouldn't eat - they're tasty, and you can live off them, but they're ... just not really good for you. factory food == processed food == bad news imho. largely.

imho, if you can find it growing on a farm, it's probably good enough. that means YOU have to process it, if you want more highly refined.

My wife's doctor put her on a gluten-free diet to see if it would help with a medical condition she has. Thankfully it did help and sometimes I eat some of the food she makes because she tends to cook a lot of food. Some of it is nasty stuff and some of it tastes good. All of it is expensive. I sometimes think of the knives I could buy if I didn't have to pay for this stuff. But not out loud.

exactly what is she cooking that is so expensive?

i mean, if you ate chicken, hotdogs, pickles, and yogurt that's "gluten-free" (barring wheat fillers)

I don't like the fact that Greybush's last activity here was January 7, and it appears he did nothing to contact the folks he should have.

he told me that his daughter has his tablet computer, and the web browser's homepage is set to bladeforums.com AND he's logged in - so every time she opens a new page, activity updates. it's not him. last i checked, he hasn't posted since 2012-12-15.

from what he told me, he's in rough shape, has lost 20-25 lbs, and i gather doesn't have regular access to his house or stuff right now. family issues.

i still haven't been able to reach him - just goes to voice mail.

sometimes, life just happens, and there are priorities you have to meet first, and as well, sometimes getting time on a computer isn't one of them. that's not an excuse, just a fact.

now, not making it to the post-office - that's a tricky one; but i can think of a few things that would prevent that too.

Hey Dubz,

Can you explain the functional differences between using surgical tubing and bands for those slingshots?

i've seen the claim for years, that bands are FASTER and more powerful, they can certainly be stacked more easily too.

what's the deal with that one 'shot that has the angled grip? doesn't look comfy.

in polymer, esp, these even seem like they'd be affordable and all :)

From what I've read, bands are more powerful, (some say tubes are) and have a smoother release, and are quieter. Especially easier if you have arthritis, etc. They say they are more accurate as well, but I think that just comes down to what you get used to. Tubes, on the other hand, are generally cheaper, easier to install, and last much longer than bands. They're more forgiving if you get a small nick in them, where a flat band tears easier. They say bands are better than tubes in colder weather too, because of the cold air forming inside the tube. Cold weather affects both though, of course. It really just comes down to personal preference. I'm fairly new to this as well, so I haven't really formed an opinion yet, they are just things I've read.

From what I've heard, flat bands are faster and smoother. Makes sense to me, because there's less material to be compressed again after it's been stretched out. A guy I know (Jörg Sprave, he runs the Slingshot Channel on youtube) swears by bands made from TheraBands.

It was one of the concerns I had before purchasing. I read that if you had small hands, it gets uncomfortable fast. I don't have small hands, but it was still a concern, because it is so wide. I've only shot it a few times, so no problem, but I can see where it would get uncomfortable after extended periods of use:
