Well ... some weeks are almost over and I´m still alive and I still carry just (!!) these three knives. I couldn´t say I´m happy, but it´s ok. I just may not open the drawers to see all the other companions. ;) :D

Now we just have 18 more days to come and go. I will get it and be the winner... hehehehe!

I think it is definitelly a good experience to anyone who interessted... It makes you free  - at least it with me.

18 days... and counting :D :p

Thanks for the update, Andi. Your self-discipline is an inspiration to me!
Less than 3 weeks to go; relatively speaking, that's nothing :D

Hi guys & gals! :)

Well, the bet is over now as it is nine o'clock in the evening and I will definitelly go nowhere as I´m almost much to tired for anything than typing some lines having a nice beverage and the got to bed. The bet is over and I´ve kept word and actually just carried these three knives since the bet started.

It was not that hard as I thought at the beginning as time uses to fly. Well, there were some hard moments/days. Especially when I got some of the new knives, like the BFC 2014 or the #09 Esquire and on this week the #99 Wall Street it wasn´t such a hard deal as there were just some days left. But the months before I actually came to point and thought if I should just change the setup as many other nice knives required to be picked up and carried around?! But I didn´t. On a bet a man doesn´t cheat and so I wouldn´t. I kept the new knives in their tubes, and packages and just took em out for taking pics. Then they went straight back. And the whole accumulation I own was resting in the drawers (for holidays? LOL).

What I have learned; I chose after I thought after. I took one of my All-Time-Fave Battle Horses (#66), my Personal Grail Knife (DB Barlow) and a relatively new #15 which I haven´t carried so frequently since I got it (TC Barlow). Took them into a rotation of usually a week one and the next week the other or just daywise; depending on my mood. I learned to love each of them as they were companions. Taking them wherever I went and did what had to be done. Now they are acutally MY Knives.
I worked much better that way then when changing each day.

There will be a resumee for me: I will stop buying so many nice(r) looking knives and want to carry and wear the ones I almost own much more. Using the heck out them so that every single one of them will be MY knife in the future Sometimes few is actually more. I think I have learned my lesson. ;)

It was hard but not impossible as being a little nerdish (isn´t it, Sarah :p ) on knives. When you have time you should also try something like this.
I gonna sharpen the special three during holidays and oil them clearly and giving them rest in the drawer.

But I will change for some time each day again :D :p - too nice to haven them around and carry so many.

(And it´s always great to win a bet, isn´t it?!)

Way to go ANDI!!!

Merry Christmas to your and your lovely family my friend:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Congrats Papa Andi!

Life is too short not to carry many knives.

Well done Andi! I like to think I'm Will Power :D but I don't think I would've managed this one.....

Now you are liberated from the straitjacket, it's time to carry as much as you can, or like. I'm interested in how you find that Wall St. just can't make up my mind about getting one or not....?? guidance needed.

Well done Andi :) Great post

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas and a great 2015

I would suggest that You QUICKLY LOSE the bet...thereby proving to her that you cannot live with just three.
IF you WIN the bet, she may SUGGEST that you sell the others, as it's obvious that you can get by without them.
With a long-ago ex-wife, I lost a lot of collector firearms in that same way.
I realize that your wife sounds like a nice lady. Not all of us are that fortunate...the first time.
Merry Christmas. :)

Now there's a man who responds to the Opening Post without bothering to read the rest of the thread.

True,.... BUT what fun is there if you know what you're posting about? :D

Congratulations, Andi. If I did something like that, I'd have to up it to at least 5 knives, cause that's what I carry everyday already. Oh, and I would have had to find a woman who could put up with me for that long, much less marry me.

Andi,

I've followed your adventure as best I can from this distance, and have enjoyed your efforts from afar. Thanks so much for writing up your final thoughts. Interesting conclusions, and great good humor throughout.

Without undertaking a challenge such as yours, I have by default been relying on a very small group of knives throughout my work days, my #15s with caplifters (for the screwdriver. Ahem), especially the bareheaded ebony with clip main. I have quickly confirmed what I'd guessed at before: I do become more deeply bonded with the knives I use.

I mean, I love my knives for a variety of reasons, some overlapping, some unique to a given piece, but there is something different that happens after consistently relying on one for its manufactured purpose. For me, the familiarity that enables me to focus on the task at hand, not the tool in hand, becomes endearing in and of itself. As you state above, the knife becomes a 'companion' of sorts, a memento of days.

It was hard but not impossible as being a little nerdish (isn´t it, Sarah :p ) on knives. When you have time you should also try something like this.

:D

You bet! ;)

Thanks for taking us along, Andi.

Great thread, Andi. Good to see you stuck with it until the end. I took a challenge like this of sorts a while back for 3 months and I came out of it knowing that the knives I picked for the journey turned out to be very appropriate and they did not leave me wishing for more knives. I found it odd at the time. Since then, I have really had to stop and make myself pick up something different to use for my EDC rather than the one I used last week or last month.

Indeed, my posts in the "What are you totin..." thread have decreased markedly. I don't use very many of my knives anymore. I can't say I limit myself to a batch of three, but most times I have one or the other of just two. Currently they are the amber bone mini copperhead and the smooth ivory bone GEC improved trapper.
