Carved this cardinal bird. Needs to be painted and I’m going finish the bottom into a wine bottle topper. When it’s done I’ll be giving it to my mom.

Did they determine that her main issue was that she has basswood bones?

Sadly only whittling away my budget lately, though just yesterday, I did use a new to me case yeller sodbuster to strip the urethane off a tomahawk handle I got from the gun show over the weekend, in the process of staining it and applying a home brew mix of pine tar and linseed oil finish. The soddie did an excellent job of making some spaghetti wood curls on the shop floor.

Basswood would be better than her real bones. At least basswood is not full of osteoarthritis.

Tonight while visiting mother-in-law I showed your whittling to everyone. All thought it was an amazing likeness to the bones. I told her it was even in her size, which garnered me a scowl and grumbling from her but she did smile
