What have you been whittling with your traditionals?

Oh, that's a nice knife and whittling that's for sure. Did you do it entirely with the stockman?

It is possible to soften dry wood by dipping it in a mixture of alcohol and water (50/50). However, for small details it is better to let the wood dry to obtain cleaner cuts.

Dan.
Yes you can soften it some, but I only use hot water and a brush. No alcohol. You can even soak it a minute if it´s really dry and hard

I've been said that alcohol helps to dissolve water-repellent substances present in wood. As it works, i've not tried any other process.
I will give hot water a try, thanks for the tip.

Dan.

Not at all. The stockman is a new acquisition and still has the factory edges,
It was carved with both the small blades of the #62 whittler, most of it with the modified clip

When you say modified, what are you actually doing to the edge?

I've actually considered doing some similar modifications to one of the small blades on my Pocket Carver. It has the double small Wharncliffe blades. Sometimes it'd be handy to have a bit of belly on one.

Never checked out this thread before, some really fine work. I always loved to whittle. Alot of these pieces are way above my talent level. Got a couple of walking sticks I’ve done years ago that I’ll try to post . Makes me want to grab some sticks and have at it

These are a couple of things I have worked(and working) on. Also the main tool I’ve used for many years. Customized along time ago lol. But it works for me. Not show stoppers but I sure do enjoy sitting and cutting on a piece of wood. Soon to be retired I hope and plan on trying to improve my skills.IMG_2728.pngIMG_2688.jpeg

I haven't forgotten about doing a little tutorial for hollowing a spoon bowl with a spey blade. I have been pretty busy though. I do have a spoon that is just in the beginning phases though that I'll be getting pictures of as the process progresses.
