What have you lost?

The earliest I can remember is a Congress. I was 10-11 and I had it in the yard. Both large blades open, and I was throwing up and letting it stab in the ground. It somehow vanished. I looked repeatedly and never found it. It’s been so long now that I can’t remember for sure but I think it was an imperial. I still think about it occasionally after all this time.
Then I lost them all in a fire, save for the old timer I had on me.

I recall a case yellow peanut, case medium jack, OT sharpfinger, UH goldenspike, Klein electrician that was dads, J.E. Middleton Bowie. I can’t recall what else though I’m sure I had more.

That peanut had cv blades and a small story with it. Mom found it when she went to the drs office, in the chair she was setting in. She gave it to me sometime later. Then I gave it to the wife, then she gave it back after much begging.

Then more recently, I lost a case sodbuster jr in the mail. Orange bone. I bought it and it had some serious wobble so I was sending it back. I put it in a small padded mailer and sent it. I didn’t think nothing else about it until it’d been a month with no word, by that time I’d canned the receipt with the tracking number. I held hope it had just got lost but, it’s been over 6 months now.

Anyways I was just setting here working I the coffee and got to thinking bout’m all.
So what have you lost, and did you ever find it again?

I had carried the same old Buck 110 in my back pocket for 10 or 12 years. I was in my early twenties when after a night of drinking with friends it was gone. Nothing eventful happened that night so I’m clueless how it could have slipped out of my pocket.
I also lost one of my dads hunting knives that he had passed on to me. It was a Case XX lil Devil drop point. I had slipped it sheath and all Into my back pocket while on a evening squirrel hunt. I didn’t have any luck with the squirrels and getting back to my truck I didn’t have dads old knife either. I came back the next day to look as it was getting dark. I looked and looked but never found it. I really wish I had that one back just because of who’s it was.

Only ever lost one knife, a hefty Joseph Rodgers British Navy Clasp Knife my grandfather gave me more than 50 years ago, and it still wrankles 🤨 My friend H herder recently sent me a replacement :)

I've had other knives stolen too unfortunately 😠

A small green Spanish locking navaja my parents had bought me during holidays in Llivia (quite the only good thing I kept of these) when I was about ten. I suspect they realised later that it was really sharp (as they had already done with the plastic sword of my musketeer disguise). Then some Opis when playing with fellow teen agers and the last is a Victorinox with magnifier, scissors, plus pen and a sharpener in the sheath. Again I suspect a colleague to have taken it from my table and just forgot to give it back, willingly or not. I did notice the loss only much later and was very sad as I had bought it in an emporium in Lands End where I had taken my parents and my daughter on holidays (Cornwall, not the Emporium -though it was quite large ! 😌).

Just yesterday I thought I had lost two: a Spyderco UKPK that had a rather weak clip and could easily have been pulled from my pocket by tree branches and, more critically, a custom SAK Pioneer Harvester that (along with a similar Electrician) were both made for me by Wallace Rockwell. On Tuesday, I had a four-hour session for minor and sucessfull surgery in a dermatologist's office where I spent a lot of the time in a reclined position-an ideal situation for losing a pocketknife. I didn't notice the losses until yesterday, spent an anxious couple of hours searching, calling the doctor's office etc., only to finally realize that the SAK was in the same pocket where it had been all along (don't ask!). I'll do some more searching of our yard for the UKPK but at least a replacement (BDN1 drop point) is readily available for $75. The SAK would be a lot harder to replace so, if only one of the two is found, I'm glad it was that one!

My ability to cope it seems ;)

Why can't I lose crap knives or ones I don't much like??

This vanished on a useless and VERY boring business trip on the other side of the country in 2019

Followed by this Micarta treasure during a house move in 2020. Bunny tried but he couldn't find it anywhere (removal van I fear..)

The Beat goes on.....this went MIA 3 weeks ago. Thought it was at the country house or in pockets but no. Still clinging to hope but the others are goners.

Too many knives eh? Too careless, well at least they're used and liked, it's always a risk if you use 'em you'll lose 'em but let not possessions possess you .

I've only ever lost 2 traditional knives.

One was a cheap little keychain balisong I lost when I was a kid and never found.

The other was my Case Slimline trapper, but I found it deep inside the framework of my recliner.
One day I heard my green Vic cadet slip out of my pocket and clank inside my recliner, as I was trying to free that Cadet from the spot it had gotten stuck I just happened to see a little glint which turned out to be that Slimline trapper.

If this one hadn't slipped out if my pocket.

I probably never would have found this one after at least 6 months being lost.

Awesome that you found it. That alox cadet is a beaut too. Nice color choice.

Lost my Vic Farmer just before our first (2020) lockdown . Searched the 4 car garage, trowelled all the gardens , searched all the drawers, offered obscene amount of treats to the kids if they could find it, all to no avail. Much sadness ensued.
Got myself a Pioneer to soothe the loss and replace the magnificent awl. Cut to mid 2021, grabbed a small back pack to take on an overnight trip, felt the top flap to be a bit heavy. Undid the zip and reached inside to find a chorus of knife angels singing and trumpets playing and the Farmer awaiting me. Great happiness ensued

I think this will be my 3rd retelling of this story on BF, but here goes:

Back in the mid 70’s when I was in elementary school, I got a black Case Sod Buster Junior for my birthday. I think I may have been in 5th grade or so. Also about that time I was given a pair of maroon crushed velvet bell bottom slacks as hand-me-downs. They were still a little too big. I was used to wearing jeans and carried a knife every day without worrying about it falling out of my pocket, so I didn’t think twice about dropping my new knife into the loose pocket of these abominable maroon slacks and heading to the school playground to play basketball. Of course the knife fell out and was lost, as I discovered when I got back home. I retraced my footsteps but never recovered it. As you can tell by my clear recall of these events more than 4 decades later, this incident scarred me for life. I think I had that knife at most 2-3 days.
