What is a good folder for a marine?

I personally think a person should buy a bunch of high value knives rather than one ZT. Bucks are American made and are good quality, but are pretty inexpensive . They have modern folders.

This is a great idea!!!

As a vet I can tell you that vey nice things tend to 'disappear' in military barracks. You have people transferring in and out, and sometimes items walk away while you're in the shower or chow hall. The Buck and other moderate price knives are a great idea.

From my own army experience to include a tour in Vietnam, the army issue all steel scout knife that most refer to as a demo knife, was the handiest knife I had aside from my SAK. This was before the age of Leatherman. About 5 years ago our niece, who was in the navy at he time, did a tour in Afghanistan with the sandbox sailors. She told me that the Leatherman that the navy issued was a great piece of gear that was highly valued by the marines she served with in the sandbox.

Small personal flashlights were also highly valued and useful.

I tend to agree with the sentiment that a US-made knife would be the best choice. Kershaw still makes quite a few different models here in the US that are very reasonably priced, especially if you are buying two. For small and light, a Skyline would be great, or one of the various Link models. For a bit more money and a slightly bigger knife, a Blur or Knockout would be a good choice. Another option would be a US-made Gerber Applegate or Covert "combat folder" which will probably run you $85-95 based on what I've seen. Gerber doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation around here (due mostly to the dubious quality of their imported knives and the silly Bear Grylls products) but they still do a good job on some of their US knives, and my Applegate folder seems on-par with my other US-made knives of around the same price. The design has a lengthy history of military service.

That endura deal would absolutely be the way to go a great price on a fantastic blade.

I love the Endura and think that would be a spectacular choice, especially with the offered deal.

If you're still looking for other suggestions, the Leatherman Skeletool might be a good option. U.S. Made, you should be able to pick one up for under $50 and they can be found in a lot of big box retailers.

CoastieKevinK's offer is just awesome. Way to put yourself out there to support these soldiers.

OP- I'd love to hear that you take him up on this. Those knives would be a damned near perfect solution here.

If you dont take the endura's then id say rat 1 or the utilitac. But seriously thats a good deal on 2 enduras and a very generous offer. You should find a way to make that deal happen. Good for you and your buddy btw for hooking these guys up with knives. Wish I had friends like you when I was in. I wasnt as in to knives then as I am now. But while over seas the cav guys I was attached to all carried auto benchmades. They would gey left in my motorpool all the time so I ended up with 2 of those and a apple Fairbaine (spelling?) Folder.
