What is HOLY GRAiL knife for Buck Collectors?

different for different collectors. some like the Hoyt Buck handmade early pre-factory knives.

they be at the top of some lists......

Sorry.
Seriously tho, my list.

A knife that was handed down to me by someone in my past. Maybe I remember them using it.

I knife I gifted to a good friend that admired it during our past hunt. I loved that knife, and I'm thrilled he now has it.
He always makes a point to show it off. That's better than having it yourself.

Knives from Buck's past Custom makers; Houser, McClane, Remer, Cody....... etc. Owning some of their works is always a gift. It's cool to own what their talents created.
It's more than just a knife.

I always thought it would be cool to find a nice 925, or a set of Sambar Stag 100 series knives. There are some cool people in this community that helped me with those.
I always think of them when I see those knives. Thanks Guys! I do appreciate it.

Finding a knife I wanted on ebay....... eh. it's just a knife. There's no story there. Cool, but not so exciting.

I guess to me, it's as much about the people as the knife itself.

.....and you can't have any of my treasures for obscene money, 'cause they are not for sale.

There’s a few knives I’d really like to have but they’re out of my financial reach but even then they’re just a knife.

I think the knife that would be at the top of my list would be my dad’s knife. It was a Schrade Walden stockman that was the first knife I remember taking notice of. I must have been about 4-5 years old and he was working calves, branding and castrateing, all that stuff. It was dark brown jigged bone handled with a badge shield. That’s when I learned what a spey blade was and how it worked as I noticed the different blades and asked why. It was purely fascinating to me and that knife was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen. Lol
I don’t know what ever happened to it and it was dad’s favorite. I’d give a load of money if I could get that knife.

For me, I would have to see it to know. I don't grab everything that crosses my path. I've had opportunities for some great pieces, but they just didn't do anything for me.
I like the idea of the complete sambar set for a display, but not keen on the Klinkhamer set, go figure.
My interest lies primarily in the El Cajon customs of the more practical patterns - hunters and skinners.

Having collected "full line" Buck for many years my present interest has gravitated to pre factory and original custom shop. Mostly out of reach, I buy what I can when affordable.
Holy Grail.... perhaps a full set of melamines would be worthy of such a label.

I collect rare,odd,1of1, safety award 112's so there's a lot of cool knives to chase..but some stand out as true raritys. Only 136 Old Custom Shop numbered 112's are listed. I was lucky enough to find 0136 (last one shipped in 1993) Brass frame Mastodon handles with a mirror polished Custom blade. I believe 4 in the 136 were Damascus. All Damascus bladed 112's are rare and to this day I don't know how many bare blades were made..or when. Right up there are BG42 112's (100 blades made in 2002) Buck would reblade a 112 you sent in for $35.00. They seldom ever are sold.
Buck DID have a true Custom shop and would build exactly what you dreamed up and the one of a kind knives from that era typically sell in excess of a grand or more.
Prototype/samples are very limited no matter what model and many that collect a specific model really like those.
I would say very limited Bucks (the less the better) in rare and expensive handle materials or very odd Customs (think silver wire wrapped Ray skin handle dagger) and elaborate Customs by Bucks best customizers. I really like 20 25 and 30 year Service award Bowie's and other Big Bucks will give its Employees but I don't collect them.
Rare,Early and Best Quality..

A Nemo would be pretty high on the list for me.

The Mini-master was my grail knife, and was fortunate enough to come across one.

Besides the M9 and Buckmaster 184…

what are your opinions as to the most desirable Buck knife you could add to your collection?
I actually had an opportunity for recently acquiring mine!! I wanted a 117 and I was actually able to get a March 2021 BOTM knife on Ebay! I now have great Buck Knives in my knife collection but that one is my "holy grail" knife. Here's a picture of my Buck collection which I started in August 2021!!

The Klinkhamers are pretty nice F49AF6A2-80E5-4E20-99BF-011F69038421.jpeg
If I didn’t own this one I’d be lusting after it 1 of 13 made.

The Buck grail i never thought I’d find is this sportsmans axe with the sheath.

I tried to focus on attainable grail knives as opposed to the obvious unobtainable early handmade one offs and prototypes.
