Hi all you knife crazed people out there! I include myself in that description! Help my with something good, bad or anything in between> What is it about Busse infini?
I hear legends, but no metallurgical reasoning, I hear stories, but no proof. I don't own one , cause I refuse to buy a product that is all hype, and no proof. I own 10 Cold steel pieces because they back up what they say. I have pieces and no safe queens. What good is a knife that will not get used! I am on a rant cause I even own a HEPKA piece, by ....., that I put through its paces, and I was not impressed, built in Ed fowlers shop, with all the right heat treats, and 52100 and still only gets 300 cuts on 3/8ths inch sisal.
I did as well with a carbon V Laredo bowie.
I understand the variables in the heat teat and edge geometry, and all the particulars, but can any one come up with some real edge retention without sacrificing every thing else, let me hear it!!!!!!!
get it off your chest!

busse knives i have few , they are very tough and well made.:thumbup:

Once you hold one, well. Hold one. I just two weeks ago used my sar 8 to process a deer, and even after CHOPPING through 4 leg joints, I was able to still skin, and butcher the harvest. Once back at the farmhouse, I looked over my edge wichbis common practice for me after use. No chips, dents... Just a quick slide down a butcher steel and she was ready for the next days activities.

All on all, I'm happy.

Infi is a great steel, buy some and try it. Speculating won't give you first hand experience.

If you don't like it sell it, for close to what you paid.

So what you are saying is Schrade is as good as busse?

Sounds like that's what you are saying.

I'm saying that's not all that much tough on a knife. The busse wasn't even hammered in that far. The busse doesn't look like a foot was put to it and pushed around in the pavement either.

It's going to take more than that to impress if an extremely cheap piece of Taiwan 1095 can endure more.

Maybe I'm saying the Taiwan 1095 is better? That's a question for you to ask though, I'm not into that kind of stuff. I'm a little curious if the OPs question can be answered, doesn't look like anyone has answered it yet. I'm just showing it doing what a low end knife can do isn't proof it is better.

Who says the whole forum has to jump through hoops to satisfy this guy? If he is satisfied with his cold Steel products, obviously he claims to own ten, no one is forcing him to buy a busse. What if isn't better, according to his standard? The busse guys are obviously happy with their products.

O.P. There is a busse section on this forum. Visit, start reading, look at pictures etc. If you arent satisfied after some research there is also one for cold Steel.
Best of luck.

Nothing even a $30.00 slab of 1095 made in Taiwan won't do.

Disagree. I see you are linking to a YouTube test.

YouTube also has many much more extreme tests of INFI. Showing much much more extreme abuse of INFI.

In fact, I believe the last time this topic came up I linked them for you.

Much much more extreme use than tapping into asphalt, fleeing a few degrees then pulling out.

I own more Cold Steel products than he does, and I'm satisfied with them, but I'm a knife person, goddammit. I want all the knives. Busses look like great knives to me and that's why I'll eventually buy one. I'm sure I'll love it, too.

First, though, I want one of Brian Evans' Companions! That's definitely going to be the next fixed blade I get my paws on.

INFI is an excellent, all around steel, and Busse designs knives to accentuate its strengths, as they should. If you need to dismantle a DeSoto with your knife, a Busse should be on your list of potential tools. That said, I've never seen any independent, objective testing that shows it to be superior in any particular measure to, say, properly treated 3V, M390 or M4 (neglecting potential corrosion of the latter), among others. The fanboy obsession with it supposedly being the holy grail of knife steels is a testament to Busse's business savvy more than anything.
