Hey OP, Why the hell does anyone need to justify or convince you of anything. If you are curious about the knives buy one and see for yourself. There is enough "proof" out there that they are beasts, and if you don't like it, sell it. I was curious once too, so I read the stories and decided to buy one... One become several, and I've never regretted it or looked back. Now they are the only fixed blades I use. But that was my choice. Now, go make yours...

Busse INFI Knife Steel very high levels of stain resistance in many different climates.

The paint does nothing?
Theres nothing magical about INFI. It's just a steel, subject to all the physics of any other steel.

So I pounded my Hell Razor through some freshly cut tree sections (sometimes with a baton, a few times with the hammer side of my 4lb 'fireside friend' Estwing), before that I used it to process a load of seasoned tree sections for fire wood, and I've used it on meats/ bones... no matter what the task, a few swipes on a ceramic stone brings it back to super sharp (effortlessly carve receipt paper). In all honestly, it could still slice paper having just competing those jobs... Now, does that make it "better" or "special"--I don't know. But it makes me happy. What else matters?

Disagree. I see you are linking to a YouTube test.

YouTube also has many much more extreme tests of INFI. Showing much much more extreme abuse of INFI.

In fact, I believe the last time this topic came up I linked them for you.

Much much more extreme use than tapping into asphalt, fleeing a few degrees then pulling out.

Same applies to the busse. I seen another video of that same model being beat through thick sheets of steel. A feat that's not difficult for any good heat treated knife steel. Sheet steel made to fabricate objects is always soft. It proves pretty much nothing. Watch some of the glock knife destruction videos. Cheap simple carbon steel. Doubt a buses could do more.

In the end being happy with your purchase is what it's all about.
I've done much the same over many winters with with my favorite non-busse wood processor. Does it make me happy....yes. It makes me happy that I can do all of that at 1/3 the cost.

No questions asked warranty at 1/3 the cost? Let me in on the secret..

Cost/ value is a relative thing. The old Ford Focus I had got me where I needed to go... but the new beefed-up Dodge Charger, which cost much more, did the same job yet also made me much more happy. Somethings are just on the other side of debate, equivalencies, and commensurability... like pleasure. I like Busse, so I buy them. The OP just needs to figure out what he likes...

So the exact same knife design in 440C will perform identically to one made of S7?...

I'm no expert but I understand that all steels are NOT created equal so why spread misinformation?

Boris is banned again he won't be back to answer you, at least not under his previous screen names.

Yes. It's all subjective to an extent, that is why happiness as the end goal is so important. By all means buy what you like....but there is no need to put down others for their purchases, or for what they like or for what their own perceptions are of a particular knife or steel. We are all different and will have differing experiences and opinions. Now...I could tout here that I've processed far more wood in my lifetime than Cobalt has....but that would be mighty pretentious of me. I don't know his experience aside from whats posted on the site.
There are many people in the world who feel that spending more equates to getting more when many times it isn't really the case beyond their perception of it.
For me, cost and value are important things to consider when making purchases. I don't listen to hype. I don't listen to sales pitches, exclusivity or perceived elitisms. Reality talks.

In today's market, I don't believe Busse knives are outrageously priced. Over the summer, I was quoted $387 for a Hell Razor through their custom shop. I've seen Cold Steel products in that ballpark. Busse offers amazing steel with a lengendary heat treat and most of their knives have great ergonomics to boot. Their costumer service and warranty are tops in the knife industry.

If Busse is not your cup of tea, there are so many other knife companies in today's market. It won't be difficult to find something to your liking at a price you can afford.

Agreed... I've made my rounds with Beckers, ESEE, Barkies, and a few others, and have found that Busse does it for me. I like the looks, the feel, the performance, etc... sometimes the price can sting a little, but it works out for me because I feel like the value is there--in the thing and in its use, and in the pleasure I derive.

And I guess that is why I took issue, moderately, with the OP... I'm not sure what he's after. Sure, he's going to get fans and detractors, and those in between... how does that help him? It is all out there, and a simple search will bring up pages of it. So, then is he just stirring the pot, for kicks? Maybe. Thus, my comment was of the simplest kind... go out an give it a try, if you like it, then you've found something great... if you don't well, then, at least you know-- first hand, not via hype, or talk, or marketing... etc.

I hear your point, Karda. And I respect it... just not so sure of the OP's point. I truly enjoy my Busse knives... it's what my son and I use to do stuff to bond over and have our guy time. I know that the knives can take a beating, absorb his eventual mistakes, and if they are damaged, the shop will take care of me. Thus, a part of our time will remain with him after I'm gone. That's where I'm at... and I'm OK with it.

Satin INFI, in my experience is stainless. Swimmimg, canoeing for days wet, no rust. I've stripped off the coating on a few aND actually swam with it.

It is strong, and shock resistant even at high hardness and thin cross section.

It is not magic. I have other steel that holds an edge better from a abrasion cutting tasks stand point. Even at a thinner edge, it resists chipping. When you bang a rock or concrete it is easier to fix. Often just requiring steeling the edge.

Now...speaking of perceptions...
To me that last pic looks to me like the scrap is grinning up at that Busse and exclaiming..."destroyed? Hey bert! (over on the scrap pile) I've been laying out here for quite some time. This guys stabs me and says I'm "destroyed". Whaddya think? Bert: Well I dunno jack. I think you've seen worse. He needs to try harder to impress.

K. Not really trying to impress...
Sometimes I use my knives for fun and messing around, other times for actual work.:rolleyes::foot:

Bigger used blade cleaved it in twain; I'd call it garbage/scrap/destroyed based on this result LOL. YMMV
