Just curious as to what is out there that you guys consider to be on par with the spyderco military in terms of size, quality, value, and price?

The Benchmade AFCK about fits the bill with the exception of price...not to mention, they are just downright hard to find...

What are you looking for this knife to do?

Are you going to really USE this thing? If so there are better options out there.

Nothing beats the Military. Thin, perfect blade shape, amazing ergos, and the best linerlock I've seen.

My use will be general, occasional carry. I don't forsee it getting heavy use...more of just a toy, but I wouldn't mind the option.

I've come to really like the AFCK, as you mention. The 710 is also very good. Depending on what you need, the Para-military or the real (original) Manix can get the job done.

The Sebenze, of course, is awesome.

I tend to like full flat grinds, but a good edge profile can fix just about anything.

I can't think of a better EDC knife than the Millie. Some prefer the Para since it is a little smaller.

The Benchmade 710 is a great affordable alternative to the Military. The Military is one of the few tacticool folders I have kept, after I got my Sebenzas. I just traded back into a 710. 154CM or D2 for the 710. I had an ATS34 705, the mini version of the 710, and that was a great knife. I'm guessing the ATS34 710 would be a great knife.

The original AFCK is as close as it gets to the Military, IMO.
The 710 with the axis lock is a good knife, but it's not as close with it's straighter handle and different lock.
Since you can't buy the AFCK reasonably why not just go with the Military.

Doesn't the Mili give much quicker easier deployment than just about any Benchmade due to the high position of the hole? This gives a great leverage advantage.

That's what gives Spydies their distinctive look, but it serves a purpose. I would chose them over just about any thumb stud knife in the same price range.

I find my Spyderco's come out as fast or faster then my BM's.
