OK i thought about what you said about the a2 being to big so kno im looking for a shorter carbon/tool steel knife around 6+ inches the only thing i like the rc6 but im going to look around first.

Your namesake makes a good knife. Otherwise a bunch of makers come to mind...Ranger knives, Stomper, Siegle, Stephen 5, the list is pretty long. How much do you want to spend? Custom or production?

Yeah, "best" is always subjective and wide-open to interpretation depending on experience, skill, location, season, etc. etc.

Brian Johnson made a great thin (3/16") 01 - 6" fixed blade for me...I love the wide blade and decent belly for skinning to digging. For me it would be ideal for the majority of camp chores...not ideal for bushcrafting tasks, but would excel as a belt knife to build a debris hut or shelter.

Bark river Game keeper II? A very good looking knife. A CS SRK in carbon V would fit your criteria and leave you with about $100 left over.

There is really no best knife. What suits one guy may stink to someone else. I usually start by what I can afford and what I can get when I want it without a big hassle.

My personal survival knife of choice is the J.P. Peltonen Ranger Puukko, with 6" carbon steel blade. Fits your 200$ budjet easily.

I wrote a review about the knife a while ago with more pics, if your intrested.

Is anyone familiar with David Wesners work?

It looks very appropriately priced and designed.......

This is good advice. Do some reading and experimentation, and use what works best for you. There is such a variety out there now, you can really have your pick!
