Well, it wasn't that recently, but this is one of the nicest deals I ever got. I was working as a technician in the old Synchrotron Lab building at Caltech. I was talking old knives with another young tech and he said that he'd inherited a dagger from his dad that he'd like me to take a look at. It turned out that it was one of the earlier models of the Sykes-Fairbairn commando dagger with cast beads-and-ridges handle.
I told him what a great find it was and that he had a nice collector's piece. He later decided that he wanted me to have it and insisted on selling it to me for only $20.00 even though I told him it was worth much more. I threw in a decent Solingen immitation commando dagger from my collection, but it was still a steal on my part.
