What is the 'best' flipper you have-or are familiar with

The 2 best flippers that I own are my ZT0888Max - maybe I just got lucky, but mine is not at all sluggish as it snaps open with authority and speed - and my Brian Tighe Custom (bronze) Nirk Tighe.

(sorry for the poor picture - bad lighting)

I like flippers that can also be opened with the thumb. I don t like detentes that are too strong for this. But I do like a firm opening flip. So I prefer a detente that has a nice balance. I have a Southard and a 560 and 561. The 560 has a strong detente and flips well but is hard to open with the studs. The 561 has a softer detente and flips well and opens well with the studs ( single digit serial number). The Southard has the best balance of the three. I also like it s blade steel and size the best. Looking forward to getting the 562cf.

I have had a ton of ZTs and Kershaws, and flippers in general, and I think the Tilt is pretty much the best I have had. The 777m390 and the Volt 3600 are up there too.

I have a few ZT and Kershaw flippers. So many are really good flipper although of all the ones I have the now discontinued Zing is at the top of the list. I have five and all flip like a dream. The 0200 is second. For such a large knife it rides in air. The JYDII is nice and smooth. The OD-1 is a fliiper of a sort, and it as fast as the Blur. Now the Blur would make an awsome flippper but...

The 0560 is nice but something just doesnt appeal to me. Cant explain it although the sound reminds of an old steel roller coaster. Will see if the 0801 I will receive in a few days is as good as everyone says it is.

The Southard and Domino are good. The 0801 has a crazy detent and the action is stupid smooth. however my favorite flipping action goes to my Kershaw R.A.M. not my favorite flipper knife due to other aspects of the, but the best action. The Hawk Lock is superb.

My Wilson Combat Eagle, the one in my Avatar. Once the sticky lock sorted itself, it is a dream now.

Thin, stout and looks good, too.

All the flippers I had prior to the 560 were either assisted, or a Skyline.
The 560 taught me how to flip a flipper in a new way (downward pressure build-up and release, as opposed to flicking off a light switch, downward stroke action) and now that I got the hang of it, I like it better than the Skyline or any assisted.

Best I own?

Kershaw JYD II or RAM.

Best I've handled?

Bodega, 888, any RJ Martin

Rod Olson Quick Flick with Brian Tighe's STBS (Sealed Thrust Bearing System). The pivot feels as if it's riding on a cushion of air. In a word, it's spectacular.

Shirogorov F3 is my top dog right now.......so fast, so smooth. It would take quite a flipper to pull that one from my pocket, but i'm still looking!!!

ZT 0561 is my best one, the kvt bearings are insanely smooth. Second is (surprisingly) the crkt aluminum shenanigan, its really smooth with just pb washers and flips even if you pull straight back on the flipper, which usually is only a half deployment on most all flippers I have ever handled. It will also easily close if you gently shake the handle, the only other knife I have that does that is my 0561.

i have a fairly large collection and my edc is my Benchmade Rift which is very fast. That said my CRKT M16 Titanium handle is very fast and it is the fastest selling knife at the PX. Affordably by your average G I who is deploying.

seeing as I havent seen enough people mention it to do it justice, but the ZT 0200 is by far one of the smoothest flippers I have ever seen...So much so that I want one and I HATE! flippers.

Yep. The STBS is one of the reasons that my Brian Tighe Custom is such a great flipper. Spectacular is a good description. :)

I've had A LOT of really nice custom flippers:
RJ Martin Overkill/Modulator - super sharp, fast flippers, kinda harder detents; for the larger 3.5 blades they carried light and slim
McGinnis Severen/etc - Love his organic designs and his hole patterns keep them really light. for a non bearing flipper, Gerry makes the best action I've had
Ochs - big fan of his hammered style
Mosiers Creep/Spyro
Lambert Snap MGT
Begg Mini Glimpse, Bodega
Shirogorov - back when they were going for $600
several Hinderers.... etc. etc.

If you can get your hands on any of those, you'd probably be happy.
As far as production flippers - I like the Spyderco Southard

I ultimately moved away from flipper knives - I now prefer a thumb stud or disk. Go figure...
The ONLY flipper I wish I didn't part with was a Phil Bogi Proto Mini Cobra
