What is the best folding knife?

Whatever fits the best and handles what that person needs it for.

Okay, as a serious answer, keeping in mind the OP's interest in Randalls:

I like the Buck Custom Shoppe 110 idea with a classic scale material like stag or horn.

You might also want to look into the reproduction Scagel folders because of the Randall tie in. PM me if you want help finding a dealer.

Other than that, all of the brands you listed have their steadfast fans and their ardent detractors. So I think you'll end up with pages of differing opinions in this thread, just as the opinions of your friends differ. This is especiallly true for the Sebenza. If I recall correctly, the last "is a Sebenza worth it thread" was eventually locked after many pages of pointless rancor.

Of the ones you listed that are currently available, Strider is the only one I've never owned--though I've handled a few--just never appealed to me. I have no interest in Hest, but YMMV. I've been very pleased with CRK, Spyderco, and Benchmade--all make good knives. Which do I like best? Depends on what I had for breakfast. As to what's best for you--only you can decide after buying some and trying them out.

Clapton, Page, or Stevie Ray?

Sort of like Lays potato chips, can't have just one....:D

For the record tho, god I would of loved to see all 3 on stage together...*sigh*

oh sh!t, I'm segueing off topic here....uhh yeah, best folder

spork....

Mercator K55 Cat knife.

Nice and thin, 1095 edge can be sharpened to hair carving sharp.
What more could you want ?

Doug :D

That's a good knife that you don't hear about much. I got two ages ago, gave one to my eldest son. Very thin, easy to get a razor edge. I keep mine in my BOB.

the 'best' knife is:
The one you have in your pocket when you need to cut something.
quoted for truth.

I've heard from some friends that Chris Reeve Sebenza model knives are the best folding knife going, but some other friends told me they're overpriced - what do you guys think, should I just get a DPx HEST, Benchmade, Strider, or Spyderco instead?

how much cabbage are you prepared to drop on a knife?

there would be almost nothing you could cut with a Sebenza or a Lochsa (you want exotic?) that you couldn't also cut with an Opinel.

personally, about the only folders i have any desire to add to my collection would be a Fallkniven U2 or PXL. fyi: my folder collection currently consists of a SAK and a Leatherman Wave.

it doesn't really matter what knife you carry. so long as you have a knife in those rare circumstances when you really, really need one. said knife doesn't need to be big, expensive or fancy. just sharp and onhand.

i really think Sebenzas are an aquired taste, if you can aquire it at all.
Striders are very good, no doubt, some of them especially for the lighter weight/hard use niche.
Spyderco is ok I GUESS :D.
I don't care for Benchmades i've had a Presidio and a 610 Rukus [ho-hum just not for me].

I vote for Lone Wolf, Al Mar, Strider, Ontario and Fox.

I could see this kind of post from a newb, but from someone who's been a member 10 years and has over 4000 posts to his name just seems strange. Kinda makes me wonder what your intention is with this thread.

Gee, whatever could his intentions be?...
There are about 4 threads on the front page asking for the best knife in certain parameters, I'd bet my smatchet on humor, heck I thought it was funny

The sarcasm is not in italics.

Seriously? Am I one of the very few that read the original post and immediately realized it was a joke poking fun at all the real threads about "what is the best this, that, or the other"? Some of you guys take everything entirely too seriously.

Well I missed the other threads you're referring to, and the fact it was in General, and not W/C made me miss the attempt at humor.

Frost cutlery, obviously.

They are the best.

I guess not everybody peruses the first page before reading a thread to see if there are several other similar posts. Oh well. Joke's on me I guess.

How about one of them San Ren Mu knives some folks are so hot on? You could get a whole wheelbarrow full of them for what a Sebenza costs. ;)
