What is the big problem about throwing RAT's??

In Soviet Russia, knife throws you!

I just laughed out loud so hard at this. For some reason, my mind automatically read that in it's most stereotypical Red Army general voice as soon as it hit the word "Soviet".

I have no problem with folks throwing knives. Heck, I do it sometimes. It's your knife, do what you want with it. However, if somebody throws their knife and it breaks, and they expect the warranty to cover it- that can become a problem. If enough chuckleheads do that, it could force RAT to reconsider their warranty. Which is something nobody wants.

Totally agreed, and this is what bothers me. I am not going to speculate whether or not this would or could get RAT Cutlery to question their warranty. Fact is, if a person breaks a knife throwing it and asks RAT to replace it with their kick ass warranty, well, that is a dickish move on their part.

If you plan on buying another one when (if) it breaks, then by all means throw it like crazy. As been stated, you bought it, you do whatever you want with it. Doesnt mean that what you are doing with it is smart.

Eh, I don't care if someone throws their knives. But I see no real purpose to ever do it, other than a bit of a dart game. Most of the comments against it aren't really trying to stop people from doing it, just pointing out it's useless to do

Do what ya want... Just dont send a blade in for warranty if its blatent abuse.

I will never smear anyone for throwing a knife, or even cutting it in half with a torch. I dont care, its nobodies business but their own. Sometimes I think people are to quick to rip on somebody. Either they ae too sensitive, or have a case of the brownnoseitis.

Now if a thread was started wanting to send a blatenly abused blade in for warranty, then Ill speak my mind to said individual, or if they are asking about throwing it in a survival scenerio, Ill do my best to educate them on why its not a good idea. I dont want anyone seeking knowlage to come away from BF with a bad taste in their mouths due to a few assholes who feel the need to make someone else feel like crap. Were all on the same side, and I think things could be put better. As to educate, not insult.

I have thrown cheap knives thousands of times with no breakage. I have tried to break moras even. I think you can throw a RAT until your arm falls off with no more than cosmetic damage.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

its your knife do what ya want... but dont expect me to think of you as the sharpest spoon in the drawer when ya do it. i also never respond to those threads...

also keep in mind people do come on here and believe that rat knives were ment to be thrown... and shocked when things get messed up... i have seen a few of those threads.

I dont even care if it gets back to RC crew. Its one thing to do it with your own stuff , but people have treated other tools i have lent them like that. cause thats how they treat there stuff. Its fine for you with your stuff especialy if you know the risks. also dont expect me to feel sad for you.

Your knife, do whatever on earth you want to with it.

But its kind of like when I see some kid who can hardly walk in his pants because they are so low and baggy. I shake my head at them too.

Pants are made to be worn around the waist. Not under your ass. Field knives are made for working, not throwing.

Just my humble opinion.

My proper heat treats don't understand your logic.

This is what I am talking about, why would anyone be less smart simply by throwing a knife??

Ever been to an axe throwing contest? I believe axe throwing originated by logging folk tossing their axe to the next tree rather than carrying it along with all their other gear. Would that make them less smart??

If I throw my knife and it is damaged I wouldn't expect anyone to feel sad for me. I don't really understand that.

Stick around this forum long enough and you will find threads that turn you off. There is one about a guy that had his mom smear his butt with fake tan and we crucified him. Thankfully, he took it well and didn't run off crying. If you find a thread that rubs you the wrong way, just get over it and move on to the next thread. :)

Grump I returned that pm you sent me, And yes i have another bodybuilding comp in a about 9 wks and well i already met a lady at the club who was down to do it for me. But since you and I have such a history on here I would love to take you up on your offer of full body shaving and jantanna aplication. I will pm directions and times to appear.

Hey all the power to you if you want to throw your knife, but most threads start up around here asking our opinions on throwing the Izula or other RC knives and IMO I think it's stupid (has nothing to do with sucking up to Jeff/Mike). Why the hell would you throw a good knife (that wasn't meant for throwing) when you can spend less than $10 and get a POS set of throwing knives that'll probably throw better? It's your money and if you want to use it to buy an RC knife to throw then go right ahead, but I (and I'm sure many others) think it's a stupid idea.

i dont under stand it eather sir... but some people come on here and expect people to feel sad for em... its an issue in the past.

And most modern ax throwing contests i have seen , are about throwing designed axes for that purpose... and i never remember a story of people throwing an ax to the next tree... for this i have no back ground in it. if you also notice that the axes they throw are expected to seperate and break a some point... i dont see myself throwing axes or hawks. but if people want to sure, as long as they do it safely.... I can figure that it came more of a dare/drinking game... hey i can get this to stick closer to the target then you thing....

in general throwing a knife is an unsafe practice i was taught agianst in general. not for the knife sake but yours. its just a safety rule. was for me. it isnt kind to the knife.. and if it does bounce back at you and strikes? who knows. its your skin. and i respect your ability to do what you wish with what you own.

but i also have a right to my opionion on this too... im not going to stop you... just as you think its my bad to not throw my knife...

also i never post in the oh no you threw your knife... threads.... meh what ever... i dont like people doing burn outs on my road... but i can care less if they do it... im not going to stop em... i also dont have to pay there repair bills...

I don't care one way or the other if you or anyone else does or does not throw a knife, hawk, axe, or the kitchen sink. I simply find it ammusing that so many people get upset over someone elses actions.

I think the whole point here is some knives are made to be thrown and some are not.

Mr. Randall said it would be better to buy a "throwing knife" instead of using the RAT as a thrower. I know a custom knife & tomahawk maker, he suggest NOT to throw his knives or tomahawks, his suggestion is also to buy "cheaper" knives and tomahawks to throw.

I respect BOTH of their wishes, they are the designers and manufacturers, they know what their products will do and will not do. Sooo, I don't plan on throwing either :).
