What is the cheapest you are comfortable with?

A Storm is the cheapest blade I have or will ever buy. You get what you pay for. I buy and carry customs for my E.D.C.'s I like them for way to many reasons to list. If you own knives that were made only for you, then you know exactly what I mean!

Peace.

While not strictly an edc, I have a Kershaw Vapor ($20 from Wally World) in my car's door pocket.

I like my leatherman micra. It's very handy. For me it's not so much about price as it is about utility. If a knife meets my needs, price is not so much an issue.

A left over Imperial Barlow-ish slipjoint with a fantastic carbon steel blade. And lately I've been carrying a yellow Flip-It knife. I think both cost about a buck fifty.

For years I carried a Trim Trio. Those weren't bad back in the day.

The best cutter I own is a Opinel paring knife. $3.

Vic Tinker goes for about $14 if you shop around. Carried one for years. Still do on occasion.

I'm perfectly comfortable with my sub-$10 Opinel, and keep it in my work bag every day.

In my pocket is a Hunters Scalpel from AG Russell, $20. At 0.8oz, it's hard to get more comfortable than that!

I carry a $30 154CM Cuda EDC, though I would have no problem carrying something cheaper as long as it has a pocket clip and thumbstuds/hole/disk and a reliable lock. Something like a Byrd would probably be great, but they just don't appeal to me aesthetically.

I've learned not to judge knives by their price. For me it's more about how well it cuts, how well the steel holds up, handle comfort and so forth. The overall design matters more to me than extreme fit and finish, S30V blade steel and country of origin. Some of my most often carried knives are a Byrd Cara Cara in G10, Opinel #10 and #8, Mora 760mg, various SAKs and so on.

If I like a knife enough, I'll pay 100$ for it. In the woods I could get by with a 20$ hatchet to chop, but I prefer a Kuhkuri by far and will pay an additional 60 or 80 dollars for one. On the other hand, while the Manix was one of my favorite knives, I prefer the Byrd Cara Cara overall so that's the knife I kept to EDC while I traded the Manix.

Price has very little relevence to performance in my experience. The Cara Cara works just as well as any 100$+ Spyderco I've used. The design of a SAK or Opinel blade lets them cut better out of the box than many expensive folders I've gone through. My mora was 8$ and my Ontario SP2 was 45$, but the latter required a lot of modification to even be usable in my opinion, and it still does not come close to matching the cutting performance of the mora.

There is crap in various price ranges put out by different companies. Some of it is due to poor heat treats or flimsy construction, others simply design blades that will not cut worth a damn and handles that hurt to hold onto. I've found what works for me and most of it happens to be cheap. Again, for me design and real world function matter more to me than many of the things that drive the price up in a knife. The mora I speak of is a crude factory made knife with strips of plastic hanging off the handle from the injection molding, but it's served me as well as my curly birch and reindeer antler puukkos costing 6x its price.

15 years with a doukdouk in my pocket proove me that it was sufficient for all usual task in town !

Nice to see a Douk Douk fan here. I carry a small one in my back pocket everyday. I wish they were more available here.

Doukdouk won't hold an edge for ever...but would easely be sharper than most of the knives named previously...
reason is not the quality of the steel (X75) but the TT and the edge geometry..
And it's such a pleasure to sharpen it with a fine stone..:D

My cheapest favorite is my new Victorinox OHT with plain edge. This version was exclusively made by Victorinox for Swissbianco.
Sorry, I may not post attachments

The cheapest I carry is a Victorinox SAK.But I always have something else decent on me like my Manix or Ritter Grip.

Along with others, I EDC a Gerber paraframe ($9-12 at wally world) I use 'em abuse them, loan them and give 'em away. I kind of like those POS's!

Generic Swiss Army-styled knife has been the cheapest knife I've EDC'd. Wouldn't be carrying a Vic Tinker if years of abuse hadn't knocked the other knife loose.
