What is the deal with spyderco?

Dear Knife Abby:

I edc a plain edge Chinook II & am happy with it except I'd love to drop from 6oz to 3oz for the summer. Thinking of buying an frn Endura and getting in the spirit by getting it serrated. Is that stoopid?
A serrated blade is unlikely to improve your love life and is hardly likely to promote world peace!

I would suggest you rethink your rash decision.

Why cant this guy proove he owns a sebenza?

you dont own one.
Sounds like a good title for a thesis on the 26 dimensional bosonic string theory.

Dude, mod it out, speed holes, blood groove and saw back.

Wow this is a pretty heated post. Anyway, Sebenza4ever, i think that Chris Reeve, Sal, and Les De Asis would all be ashamed at your posts. I mean i really like sebenzas alot ive handled a few at Blade but dont own any, even if you do theres no reason for you to harp on other companies about it.Benchmade Spyderco and CRK are all in relatively different price ranges if you havent noticed so the knives fit, finish, lock up,design, and pretty much everything else for that matter are going to vary. Maybe you want to think your posts through a little more before u foolishly start ranting about something stupid huh?

Anybody hold their cursor over sebenza4ever's red chicklet and read what it says?
The guy stirs up our passions then gets very apologetic.

The moderators haven't banned him because I think they know he has issues and perhaps this is his therapy.

I own a number of benchmades and a few spydercos but I haven't noticed a serious lack of QC on them. They are more than adequate for the purposes for which they were designed. I mean after all, we're not talking Tom O'Dell specials.

And by the way, I do indeed purchase virtually all of my knives online. I've only gotten two clunkers - one from A.G. Russell and one from Newgraham. Both companies quickly replaced them without any hassells.
I got an anonymous red chiclet for that post
Sorry if I offended anybody but I don't feel I should have gotten it for offering my opinion. :grumpy:

A Jaguar doesn't get you down the road any better than a Civic, so if you only care about getting down the road, buy a Civic. If you care about style and prestige, spring for a Jaguar.

It's the same thing with knives. My Cara Cara, which some people say isn't even a Spyderco since it is made in China (I disagree), is sturdy and so sharp that it is almost scary. It cost me about $20 and cuts like hell, so who cares if the blade bends about a millimeter to the left ?

Will a Sebenza outcut and outlast 20 Cara Caras?

To be precise it will outcut and outlast 478 Cara Caras. This has been determined through scientific analysis.

I got a negative reputation point for this post!
I got one for this :

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348063

The review of the Catcherman. There are a bunch of guys who wait until they have fired off enough rep points to hit me again and then do it at the next post.

Anon popularity polls are not what any sensible person would pay attention to. Ebay's system works infinitely better because you can see who wrote it and check their background.

Here you don't see the rep'er or what post is being refered to so the numbers are meaningless. Look at it as entertainment. I get a kick out of watching my green and reds fight it out.

I use them to fire off essentially small emails which don't need a reply like "Nice review, hope to see more." or to make a "me too", or "I agree" post, to let the poster know we are on the same level just to cut down on thread bloat.

There have been a number of threads lately where disaffected people have whined on endlessly about how unfair it all is. Most (sensible) people simply regard it as a game, much as you appear to do, and pay little attention to it. No doubt I'll receive one or two anonymous reds for this comment but let's not contaminate this thread with yet more of the same.

How about if we all just chill out on the rep point thing in this thread at least.

I thought it was pretty well established that Rep points are meaningless. Ebay rep points are more important, since you will be paying that person money. Most of the time you dont spend money here. People who get well into the red are branded as the idiots they are, but just reading some of their posts can instantly tell you if they are fools. If it wasnt for morons like sebenza4ever, it would be alot less entertaining around here, wouldnt it? :D

Agreed. Mr. Stamp, I know what you mean.

I have a Cara Cara and have used a Sebenza, I'll do a more comprehensive comparison in a week or so, but for now :

1) the cutting ability will be close as both have efficient hollow grinds and thin and acute edges

2) both have nice pointy tips so the penetration is strong for both, likely slightly better for the Sebenza on a deep stab, the Cara leaves more metal back a bit so should pry better

3) the cara's grip is far more ergonomic

4) the sebenza likely has better edge retention

5) the Cara has a more secure lock

6) the sebenza's is likely stronger, I was doing some light chopping with the Cara and the slabs started to open and I had to give them a light tap with a rock to get them back together, good as new, but not suitable for heavy work

As a relatively new member. I didn't realize getting bad rep points for no good reason was that prevalent.
Thank all of you for your input.

Yeah, I should be in the FAQ, as you can get chicklet backwash. With red chicklets as with any other similar flame activity, any negative attention reinforces the behavior. Just carry on with regularly scheduled knife discussion and don't let the red chicklets or similar influence what you would post.
