What is the Definition of Ettrick??

Nice work on that, think I need to get another one of these appealing oddities. They feel right in the hand and work well for horticultural purposes, probably skinning too maybe ? Let us know how the whittling goes, I hope the steel is tougher than this one I got..OK for chopping a Pecan or two but when I was scoring Chestnuts for roasting , the tip didn't break off but it bent/curled so they must be running some soft :poop: at times.

Yours also has a neatly cut off spring, many of theirs have very ragged looking springs although a Pruner I got last year in Oak is a really well-finished knife with no drawbacks.

Late on the reply here sorry. I’d started to reply but it got off on a bit of a rant 🤣, so I popped a pin in it for later.
A simpler reply is: thank you, yes they do feel quite special in the hand, I find myself fondling it a lot driving to and from work. Steel seems like it could be a little on the soft side too? Need to whittle more and report back!
Overall fit and finish for an A Wright is decent, but, I expect this as a minimum for an old firm in the heart of the cutlery world 🤷🏻‍♀️
Am I seeing a swedge there on yours??

Nice Ettrick, Thomas!!
Oh thank you Charlie 🫡

What a wonderful thread, loads of information about this cute, elegant pattern.

A few days ago, I received my A.Wright Ettrick. I was quite surprised, after the negative things I heard, poor fit and finish etc.
Mine came with nice fit, great spring, centered blade. Feels wonderful for small cutting chores. BUT.. the edge at nearly 0.27" is more than I would use for a machete!!

But a nice piece of history for sure!
