What is the Definition of Ettrick??

I think the one above is much later than these posted earlier and possibly post 1950's. 'SAYNOR' was a trademark of Saynor, Cooke & Ridel which was previously Saynor, Cooke until 1872 when Ridal who had become a partner in 1871 replaced Cooke as Manager after Cooke's death.
W. Saynor (Sheffield) Ltd was also known to use the trademark 'SAYNOR' and after 1958 was listed in Milton St. the same address as Saynor, Cooke & Ridel , "although the exact relationship between the two firms (if any) is unclear".

Lest anyone forget the humble Ettrick, WAKE UP thread!!!
:D

These wonderful and useful knives have a certain something I like! They are off the beaten path! They march to a different drum!! I feel right at home with one in my pocket.;)

Here is a comparison bunch, with some Ettricks of varying ages:
I've kept them in the same order for you to ID them:
Top to bottom,

-A current production A.Wright from Sheffield (walnut?)
-A recent creation by John Lloyd in stag
-A nice vintage Joseph Rodgers, courtesy Duncan via New Zealand
-3 very recent Esnyx productions in Sheep Horn, Cocobola, and bark pachyderm!

I've been thinking of all the things I use a knife for in this modern life, and except for food prep, and excursions outside the city, these compact-bladed knives will do rather nicely!!

And, I've also been thinking, nice work Evan!!:)

Whew!...Long time sleeping!

I missed out on a auction the other day that had a nice Sheffield Etterick in it-as I havent forgotten that I promised a Forum member here that they come up and when I see one I will grab it - so I am always keeping my eye out for one.
Nice wake up Charlie and Evan - that trio is simply gorgeous!

Nice to see this thread pop up Charlie, that contemporary Arthur Wright is rosewood

   That is quite a line-up, Charlie!

I love the curved bar shield on the bottom knife. A very nice little touch.

Like that Ram's Horn or is it Sheep? :D Excellent work.

I think the late Trevor Ablett made horn and stag Ettricks. No doubt the price has skyrocketed...

Here are 3 I had ordered from australia.my dear wife has brought them for Xmas for me so I can't actually see them until the 25th . can't wait for that day☺

Of course you would know, Jack! Thanks again!
:D

THat one didn't come from me Charlie :) The AW Ettrick I sent you was Buffalo (I did send you a AW Lambsfoot in rosewood)! :D ;) You did tell me who was sending you the rosewood Ettrick at the time, but I'm afraid I've forgotten.

I think the late Trevor Ablett made horn and stag Ettricks. No doubt the price has skyrocketed...

Yes indeed  And yes indeed

If one was interested in a nice carbon steel Ettrick, where would he start? I am a college student on a tight budget in the USA, so it may be a bit hard for me to get one, but I love the pattern so I would like to keep my eye open.

I'd keep an eye on the auction sites where old things are sold.

Hi Brumby 53 Joan will be pleased to hear from you . exelent service from star to finish. The price got bumbed up though by £33.60 =£25-60 inport tax and £8-00 clearness charge by parcel force if you live in England. Still well worth the extra as I thought I was out of luck as I couldn't get 1 let alone 3 from Paul izard at the Famouse Sheffield shop. They were selling out as they arrived at the shop even when poor trevor was alive. P's can't. Wait to see them on the
25th.

Hi there thought you would like some pics of them in the flesh.(so as to speak).
