What is the dumbest comment someone has made about your knife?

My Coworker called my zdp Delica "Dainty"

I've got a complex about it now. gotta get an endura :D

Well I've gotten nothing special mostly the traditional "Why do you collect knives?" "Why do you like knives?" or "Why do you need more?" etc. <- last one from my dad actually, ugh.
Too bad the threads still bit short.
Wasn't there a long thread like this earlier about funny knife related confrontations with "sheeple"?

Girl at a party who I've known for years, and is actually pretty cool, but also typical liberal hoplophobe...

"Why in the world are you carrying THAT??" I pulled the Tenacious out to open a tough plastic package, should've known better...

When I answered that I use a knife dozens of times a day for various things, she pretty much repeated the same dumb question :D

Many years ago, a friend and I were "rousted" (as we used to call it) by the police while walking down a busy street in broad daylight for no particular reason; most likely because we fit some kind of 'pot-smoking longhair' profile.

When they frisked me and found a smallish lockback - an original SOG Stingray with a sub-3" blade - the LEO asked "what's this for?" to which I replied that it was a utility knife for day-to-day cutting chores. He opened it, brandished it like some kind of tiny halfass fighting knife and said "I could cut you in half with this thing!"

I told him that his comment said more about him than it did about the knife, and was told to shut my smart mouth.

Fortunately the "weapon" was eventually returned after the officer determined, by dint of concentration while laying the little blade across his palm, that it wasn't in violation of any length restrictions, and we were allowed to go about our business.

Only comment I usually get is 'Is that legal?' - but it's a perfectly legitimate question, since I do carry assisted knives sometimes, which are not legal here. Meh, I take my chances. This question usually comes from friends, too.

I don't really understand why, but hearing all these stories, it seems like Canadians are a lot more knife-tolerant than Americans are. I would never have guessed. I haven't got a single comment about any of my knifes relating to how dangerous they are. Well, I did once - a 15 year old kid at work asked me why I was carrying a fighting knife - referring to an all-black SOG Flash 1. 2.5'' combo edge blade. -_-.

I get alot of looks when I use my Tenacious to cut something but not so much when I take out my Sod Buster so it just depends where I am. I do get asked

"Well, who pissed you off"
or
"who are you going to stab"

Then I tell them its a tool and they say well then why carry it.

There's a couple that I get regularly.
1. You know that's a concealed weapon, right?
-In reference to the proper use of the carry clip with the majority of the knife in my pocket. Usually It's my Benchmade 710. I have met a surprising number of people who think that you have to wear your knife on the outside of your pants pocket when using the clip.Otherwise it's c conceiled weapon. I then have to go into a 20 minute explanation of California knife laws, and why what they just said didn't make sense.

2.Do you think you could use that if you needed to?
-referring to the knife as a self-defence tool. I again have to go on for 20 minutes to explain that my interest in knives is not based on SD or anything violent.

It's good in a sense as you get the opportunity to educate people about knives, and dispel strange rumors . In another sense it's really irritating as most of the time the people who are presenting you with there strange beliefs are so certain that they are correct. That they won't really listen to the truth .

When using my Fallkniven F1:

"Dude, that knife sucks. You should get a Busse. Cuz, see, my Busse could baton through concrete trees, if they were really made of that. Just in case."

:jerkit:

About to burst here browsing the net at night when the house is sleeping.

Try as I might, I can't think of any dumb comments any of my friends or acquaintances have made about any knife that I have ever carried or used in their presence. Not even strangers have made any odd comments.

Either I need to get out more, or you folks need a better set of friends.

I've had someone tell me, stainless steel is all the same from knife blades to BBQ's and even fridges.:jerkit:

Using a knife in public, I've heard people in the background quietly say "he's got a knife".

Me and a guy at work used to show each other a new knife we had bought and one day a third guy was standing there, he pulled out a SAK knock off and said "this is all I need" and I thought, you got that right.

I was carrying a Leatherman Wave in the provided pouch on my belt and a lady pointed to it and asked me if I had a permit to carry a gun. Sigh...

i was at a party some year ago and i ran across a friend of a friend that was enthusiastic to meet me. he stated that he collects knives too. i told him conrats and that it is an expensive hobby.

i asked him what he is carrying now. he said this really nice near custom that he just picked up. he showed it to me and i instantly saw that it was a frost cutlery piece. i told him it was nice and gave it back to him.

he asked what i had and i stated that it was just a chris reeve sebenza. he looked at it and said it was nice too.

man, almost saved the day at dinner today! Nobody could find a cork screw for the wine... I whipped out my SAK with glee, only to remember this one doesn't have a corkscrew on it.... :( I think it's the hiker or camper or something, I can't keep the models straight.
