What is the dumbest comment someone has made about your knife?

I'v had lots of people ask me about my knives, but never anything as stupied as some of these. Most of the time people need something cut, so I do it and they say thank you. You guys need smarter friends :p

I also dont see what's wrong with someone comparing there $5 p.o.s. to my Spyderco's; they dont see the difference because even tho they carry a small knife dosn't mean that they know as much as a hobbiest/ collector ect.
I take the time to explain the differences and why I see the value of a better tool. I dont get self-rightous about them carrying a peice of crap because 99% of the time that peice of crap does what they need it to do- hence why they carry it in the first place.

Of course I'v never had someone argue with me about "mine can do anything yours can do" or call me a dumbass for carring something so expencive in there eyse. In that case than I would probably get up set, but it's never happened yet.

I dont know anything about golf including why clubs are so expencive, but if someone got upset/ called me an idiot ect. for asking what the difference is between a $100 club and a $700 I'd be mighty pissed off at them for being a duche bag. People look at us the same way, take a deep breath, not all non-knife people are out to get us.;)

Exactly. We are there to serve others less fortunate or knowledgeable than ourselves. So many members of our society are not tool users and cannot grasp the benefits that come from having a useful tool on one's person at all times.

As knife enthusiasts we have a responsibility to be ambassadors, to correct the misperception of those who see knives only as weapons. Few here use knives to harm others; most of us use them as tools to smooth the way through daily life for ourselves and those around us.

I hate when people try to tell me that I'm only carrying a knife because it "makes me feel safe" and that, in fact, it "makes everyone else feel uncomfortable". totally ignoring the fact that it is for safety and convenience. Mind you I am 6'5" 300lbs and can carry myself better than the majority of people.

There's a difference between asking what the difference between the 2 is and telling them that your $100 golfclub is just as good as their $700 golfclub.

Asking the difference is wanting to know...

Telling them it's the same is being a continental showersack.

I did not make the knife i'm talking about. A friend of mine does knapped obsidian knives that I sometimes sell for him. At a show a woman took one of his knives and ran her thumb up the blade cutting it to the bone.

Ugh, I got the willies as soon as I read she ran her thumb along the edge... not to mention the ensuing injury! Knapped obsidian will put most steel to shame for sharpness!

Hmm, off the top of my head, I can't really recall any of the folk close to me asking any truly dumb questions. Guess I'm lucky... or tolerant of the fact that I'm about the only one in my immediate circle of friends that's this into blades.

As 100% of my friends and associates KNOW that I EDC a few blades = THE dumbest thing they still ask me is "do you have a knife".

"That's the wierdest knife ive ever seen" to a kershaw boot knife "why do u have knives?" i agree w/ 230grains dont touch my knives, dont ask to borrow one, and dont mess w/ me

Them: "Do you keep your knives sharp?"
Me: "Nope, I only carry butter knives, wouldn't want to risk cutting something. That would be terrible."
:p

You guys are misconstruing the ambassador role. If someone asks why I carry a knife, I don't give them flak. But when someone says their knife is better than mine or say it's a waste of $100, yes, I will treat them how thy treated me, with arrogance and I will insult their knife.

Give my EDC crap, I'll insult your Mtech.
Ask me about my EDC, I'll respect you.

There's a difference between people being inquisitive and disrespectful. There's nothing wrong with insulting the knife of someone who is disrespectful towards you.

"You could kill someone with that thing". To which I replied, you could do a much better job with a hammer.

I like when they call it a weapon...I use my Dad's line..."I'm from Kentucky...This? A weapon? I don't see a sharpened 10in screwdriver or pool cue here".

Most of my friends carry and use knives for hunting or work but none of them are interested in anything beyond, " How do you like your knife or where did you get it. None of my friends are not apt to spend more than 20-30 bucks for a knife. Most of my friends carry a dry wall/box cutter knives. The exception would be a Stock man.

I've never really understood the "my <insert POS> is just as good as that". I've never gotten that vebatim, but I'm surprised to see it mentioned so much here. After all, nobody said it wasn't. This comment always seems defensive. They might not know how much better the knut's knife is, but on some level, they seem to know that it is.

Dumbest comment I've received (and really, I've received few): relaxing in a hotel room shared with several other Continental Divide Trail hikers, ~200 miles into our 3000 mile hike. Matti the German was showing his very nice Fallkniven F1, and I showed him my little Murray Carter custom wharncliffe necker with ironwood scales. Another hiker seemed to take the F1 in stride, but said of mine, "Oh, I didn't know it was a Freddy Kruger knife!". WTF?

They usually like the quality of the knife then ask how much it cost. I tell them and they look at me like I'm licking a corn chip.
