What is the knife you want more than anything, but cannot find?

*Leans back in rocking chair. Withdraws pipe from mouth.*

Well, I guess there have been a few. It was either lacking funds, or being unable to justify the purchase cost, relative to my paycheck at the time. Now that things are a little better, there are very few knives that I still want with a burning passion. This is a common theme in my life.

Anyways. This short list are the knives that I would have paid for at the time.

ESEE Folding Izula. The original prototype, not the redesign.

Edited because it's the "Explorer", not the "Voyager". Totally different.

That folding Izula looks like a fantastic knife. They should have made that. Im assuming the Expat was the redesign?

There was a particular Greg Lightfoot 458 Mag folder I stupidly sold once. Full CF scales and a beautifully shaped blade. It’s out there somewhere, still…

I'm going to have to careful with my words, because it's been a long time since I was really paying attention to this knife.

As far as I know, the second folding Izula was still an ESEE product. The re-do happened for a couple reasons.

At first, they were going to work with Lionsteel. ESEE didn't have the machinery or shop space to do it in-house. That deal didn't work out, but I don't know why.

The other reasons were to fix some design problems

Mostly (if I remember right) to do with the pivot pin being too far down, too far front, and too close to the lockbar.

I apologize for the watermark: this is one of the best renderings of the as-finished product I can find.

The Expat Medellin was a later offering. I don't think it was an attempt to re-make the folding Izula because of it's larger size. The shape is the result of convergent evolution, and probably the fact that Expat is closely associated with ESEE.

A custom Ramon Chaves flipper. Can’t find one cause he doesn’t make any.

A left handed Grimsmo Norseman. There's like 24 in existence and the last one I found still in the guy's possession he told me would cost college tuition to obtain. Also a lefty Koenig Arius, but they don't yet exist.

Sold for $1,070 :-( I’ll never have one, (and idk if I even would want it for $1,000) unless they make it production for $450-500

I’d prefer the Izula folder to be two slabs of micarta and a liner lock. I like the ESEE and Expat folders, but they’re too slim imo. Tops got it right with the Maserin manufactured MSF 4.0

The exact crk comm 28th anniversary mk4 I regrettably sold years ago for less then $800. Would happily pay $1800 for it to find its way home. Also a Plain Edge Spyderco Ocelot I think I traded here to someone many many years ago (if you’re out there and see this PLEASE contact me). Its Another one someone could really take me to the cleaners on. Mom gifted em to me but I was broke at the time so sold them with her approval. Shes since passed on and now I have boat loads of other knives that dont hold a fraction of significance.

A Shiro F3 Aquatic, though even when/if I do find one I probably won’t have the $ at that second to blow 😕
Maybe someday the stars will align 🙂

The original ZT0777 (Damascus) was the knife that just slipped my grasp. I was able to get the regular M390 production version, but I can't bring myself to pay aftermarket prices for a different blade steel, no matter how nice looking it is. Over $1K is sword or gun territory for me. :(
