I wonder how pricey something is before it becomes a "safe queen". I know everyone will differ on this but I'll bet there is an average cutt off. Just curious.

I use a large sebenza as my EDC and I have a Randall Mod 25 that I use when camping & hunting. They both go for about $350, so so far that is my limit. I wouldn't hesitate to use something more expensive if it fit the bill.

Personally. . .there is no monetary cut-off.

The least expensive knife that I carry is a $50 Kershaw. The most expensive is a $750 Chew "Covert" Spitfire.

The carry rules are simple. . .

1. Like it ~ buy it
2. Buy it ~ carry it

Exception to Rule #2: There are some blades that are purchased to add to the "non-carry collection."

These are all rotated, but the three most expensive EDC's are my fb Blackwood Lite Wave - $525, Tighe-Phoon - $450 and my DDR Bullnose Max - $500. And no there is no price cut-off, my most expensive knife is my Brend Merrills Marauder and the only reason that it is a safe queen isn't the price, but the fact the the serial number on it is "000."

I have used my $1200.00 Ed Fowler Pronghorn, but I have to admit, it has been babied. I regularly use a small Dunkerley utility that would cost $450.00-$500.00 to replace.

My most expensive EDC is a Benchmade Forum Knife that went for $200 when new. I have heard that they are going for $300 on Ebay if I ever had to replace it.

My Spyderco Police is the most expensive user I have. I own a couple of handmades but don't use 'em. I do, however, plan to get a Randall and I WILL use it.

my 25" sirupatis each went for $150. I've taken down branches and old fence posts with 'em. On a day to day basis nothing I carry was over $30 shipped.

Custom Bud Nealy Aikuchi $350 EDC

Custom Nealy Stinger $350 neck/car knife

Custom Crawford One Hand Knife $275 EDC Rotation.

All the rest are $200 and under.

I can't imagine buying a knife, gun, watch, car, or anything else that I wouldn't use. Well, I guess that's not exactly true. I have coins and bills from the world over that I wouldn't use. Probably couldn't use most of them.:D

Ed Fowler's Long Yearling. $1050. Very wicked sharp. I enjoy cutting with it.

Busse Natural Outlaw $250 (give or take a few bucks)

I have a Busse Active Duty that was a little bit more, but it is still unused (probably not for long:D ).

I have two Mayo TNTs, use them both. Probably have a combined value of close to two grand, but I have no problem with using them because they are so well made I enjoy every time I do use them.

The most expensive user that I currently own is a Brad Duncan Mini Police Whiplash that ran about $400. In the past, I used a Bob Lum Mini stalker that was around $500. To me, a tactical or hunting style knife is meant for use. Even gents knives are meant for use unless that have lots of gold or jewel fittings.

For me, price is not the reason a knife would be carried or not. If I want a knife to use, I will buy whatever I want (or can afford) and do so. If I'm buying a knife for another reason, like collectibility, or resale, then it must be kept in good shape and will not be carried. Oddly enough, if one of the factors in my buying decision was because the knife is "pretty", that does not necessarily mean I will or won't carry it. I'd love to carry a fully engraved & gold inlaid knife, and maybe I'd just try to be more careful with it.

That said, the most expensive folder I carry was a handmade fighter for $400. I also carry and abuse a big Bowie knife I made myself, and I'm confident I could easily get $600-$700 for it. My Bill Moran hunter is my most valuable knife. I'd love to carry it, but it is in pristine mint condition, and I don't want to be the guy who destroys this piece of history.

My current highest-$ knife I actually carry and use is a Scott Cook Lochsa. I have more expensive knives, but they're safe queens, usually because they can't outperform my $100 production knives -- so they go into the safe to save as an investment. If it performs, I carry and use it.

Same here. I am amazed at some of the offerings around the $100 mark. My more expensive, or harder to get knives stay in the safe.

The most expensive knife I own is also the most expensive knife I carry:
Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx: 4" spearpoint recurve in Talonite

I custom ordered it from Darrel and paid just over $700 for it. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money for a knife I did not intend to carry every day.

In my area we have what are called "Santa Maria Style" BBQ's that use huge hunks of meat (Tri-Tips). These pieces of meat have a huge hunk of fat over one whole side of it. The best knife I have for the job of cutting this fat off is my Bagwell "Helles Belle" Bowie (value about $1,200.).

Scarey on how well it slides through the meat, I shudder to think what it would do to an attacker. And it is not a safe queen, it sits next to me at night keeping my Walther P99 comfy.

I'm a pretty cheap bastid, so the most 'spensive knife that I use (carry) is my (customized) Camillus CUDA CQB-1, and actually I haven't cut anything more serious than air with it so far.

I HAVE used my Gerber BMF, 'tho, and they are getting to be quite an expensive knife...
