What is the most expensive knife that you actually use.

CRK Mnandi. It would be no good to me if I didn't carry it from time to time.

I use my Krein TK1 Neck Knife and Dozier Master Hunter on a regular basis - I don't think I would spend more on a knife than around $200US (I have ordered a Dozier Gentlemans Knife) as all my knives are users. I could not have a knife that could or would not be used.

In my area we have what are called "Santa Maria Style" BBQ's that use huge hunks of meat (Tri-Tips). These pieces of meat have a huge hunk of fat over one whole side of it. The best knife I have for the job of cutting this fat off is my Bagwell "Helles Belle" Bowie (value about $1,200.).

Scarey on how well it slides through the meat, I shudder to think what it would do to an attacker. And it is not a safe queen, it sits next to me at night keeping my Walther P99 comfy.

the fats the best part :D living in santa maria, i can definitely see where the helles belle would be an awesome knife for the task, thin point, thin knife, put a good edge on it and you have one hell of a steak knife (wich i assume is one of the reasons it was made like that when it was first conceived so long ago... cause what are we all but walking steaks).

i would probably use my modded busse NICK kitchen knife, just because its the only nice peice of kitchen cuttlery i have thats really thin enough for it that has a good edge. it runs about 300$

the highest priced knife ive ever used would probably be a busse active duty variant, wich i beleive originally sold for between 650$-750$, later market value around 500-600 (once i sharpened it/used it a little  )

currently carry a 1/4" limited edition saber ground satin jack from busse thats pretty rare, i bought it for 300, but ive seen them go for between 350-450.

I use my $400 29 knives balisong. I recently got a $500 Bill Sanders survival knife, but I will most likely not use it.

One of the 3 Busse's that are my fixed blade rotation (Straight handled Badger Attack, old 1/4" Mean Street, Active Duty), and my one folder, a large Mayonized Sebbie. I carry both a fixed and the Sebbie, or if concealment is an issue, just the Sebbie. Mostly, both.

Benchmade 9050 AFO and 9130 Spear point Stryker. Damn. It seems like just yesterday that I bought a Spyderco Delica and was worried about getting it dirty. This is beginning to become an expensive hobby. :footinmou

I had a Randall #2-7 and sold it because it wasnt doing me any good in the cabinet.I bought several knives and a Sharpmaker. Had I not done that,I would not have been a Sebenza owner as soon and had it been a Single edge model, I would be using it today.

Compared to some here, I'm a pauper.

My Spyderco ATR-Ti (about 170.00) was just to smooth for me to let sit.

Like others here, I wouldn't buy a knife I couldn't or wouldn't use. Both my Sebbie and my custom fixed blade get used regularly.

A particularly limited budget has constrained my ability to purchase knives, whether expensive or inexpensive :) As it stands, the highest price I've paid for a single knife is $75 - a Greco Falcon and Explorer. I use both of them, as the Falcon tags in/out with my BM Griptillian for edc duty. I did have a hard time using the Grippy for a while... it was so sharp and comfy, I just didn't wanna mess anything up. I've finally gotten over that and am really enjoying the knife.

If I did have a several-hundred-dollar knife, I would consider the reason for purchase when deciding whether to use the knife. If bought for the plain-old effectiveness of function (Sebenza, Busse, etc) then I would eventually decide to use it. If I bought it as eye candy or investment, it'd sit quietly in a corner, while life and steaks passed it by. :D

Over the years, I have bought at least 10 custom knives in the price ranges of $130 to $400 with all intentions of using them, but for some reason, they still sit all shiny in my cabinet. I can't seem to put them to use, so I carry a Gerber Covert folder $50 and a Buck skinner $60 for the woods.

Entry Tool done by the Jones Brothers.

Total package came to about $400 and some change, but I use it about every day here, whether its opening MREs, prying the tray up on the .50 (its seen better days), hacking things up out of boredom, and cutting out parts of the fighting position. Better for me then the new bayonet, just out of weight, shape, and the grip is better suited to my small hands. That, and its about unbreakable.

A $400 hand ground emerson karambit, carried everyday on duty. when in the great outdoors I now have a Busse Battle Mistress ($350) that will see a lot of work this winter. I have no problem using either of them.
