What is the most expensive knife you bought that you didn't like?

I have to say the Benchmade 940 Osborne. It is probably the most well-built BM in my small collection, but it just lacks in overall appeal for me. The blade is too straight and narrow for my liking and the aluminum handles scuff too easily. I also really dislike the color of the one I got (green with purple back spacer). For $180, I'd rather buy an Emerson or a good Spyderco.

I've never spent a lot of money on a knife I hadn't handled beforehand, so I can't say that I've BOUGHT an expensive knife I dislike....buuuuuut: Microtech. Let me explain. Microtech knives are nice, yes, but they ain't worth 400 bucks to me, especially as I'm not an auto guy. It just seems too much for a production piece.

Busse NMFBM LE... Spent nearly a grand on it, and it was way to big to be practical... I use a BRK Golok in its place today and love it!!

Benchmade 530. It's not a bad knife. Thin, lightweight, carries very well, and cuts great. Just didn't care much for the symmetric dagger look and feel.

Xm-18.... The size of a mini grip, for the price I could have bought a couple other folders that I've had my eyes on.

Haven't bought a Sebenza, handled 'em, not that smooth.

Anyhow, traded off the Hinderer, and the new owner likes it.

Biggest letdown for me in production class was a boker epicenter,
I was unfortunate enough to get the first production run with the
uneven grinds and skewed scales. Idea behind the knife was good,
but execution left so much to be desired. I read that they addressed
the issues that plagued that first batch in a later run.

As for custom class, it would have to be the Krein Alpha folder. Now I
actually like the knife and had a few great renditions of it, but one in
particular was off- a similar issue with scales being unaligned. Thankfully,
the custom knife retailer I purchased it from accepted a return with refund.

So my main gripe is not in the design of the knives, but in their production qc.

For me, it was a used custom Kevin Wilkins Leafstorm. I forget exactly what I paid for it, but it was north of $400. I got the knife, examined it, and immediately knew it was going back up for sale. We're talking less than five minutes or so.Eventhough it was well made, it just did nothing for me.

As a Damascus fetishist, I came very close to buying one of these, until I read the reviews on Amazon. Too bad, it looks great in photos.

SOG Arcitech Damascus. Looked great in pictures and was a smooth and well put together knife, but not everything I expected for the money.

ZT 0301. I had one for about a month. Just too much folder for my tastes. The knife was quality, heat treat was good, ergo's were okay, but the heft of it along with the re curve made it something that I was not interested in owning. Give me an SnG all day long for those hard use folder tasks. :)

First knife I bought that was over $100 a Boker Black Forest.

Loved the feel, the grind, the inlays, the lock....

Just couldn't get over the fact that it couldn't be carried on my lefthand side.

It was this one (only pic I could find on the web)

Mine was #75 out of 250.

Off the top of my head there have been a few.

Strider mSJ75 - $400... beautiful, perfectly made knife... just not for me.
CRK Umnumzaan - $400... ditto above.
CRK GB 5.5 - $300... thick grind not what I want.
CRK Shadow III - $250... ditto above.
Benchmade Gold Class Grip - $300... nice, but tooo similar to a plain ol $70 Grip.
Trevor Burger Exkelibur - $300... IMO, can do better for the money.
Hogue EX01 - $175... ditto above.

These knives competition have been many Sebenzas, other Strider Folders, ESEE, Swamp Rat, Golden Spydercos... those are keepers.

Strider PT CC. On paper it was perfect but the execution of the finished product was extremely lacking. The edge was way too thick and obtuse for a knife like the PT, it was like something off an issued KBAR. Compounded by lock bar over travel from the factory and a very bad customer service experience, I was very upset by this purchase. Since it was so comfortable in the hand I had a Krien regrind done on it but I still couldn't like it. Traded it for a Benchmade 943 and a Surefire.

90$ on a gerber LMF II (bought from a mom and pop outdoor shop hence the slightly inflated price) No quality issues whatsoever, but It just didn't feel right in the hand, it weighed a ton for not much blade, and the serrations didn't make it any more appealing. Now if I was going to use it as a ASEK I'm sure It would preform excellently, It was a purpose built tool so I can't find any real fault with it I just never used it much so I sold it.

Spyderco Military M390 bought for $255 off the exchange, but just didn't care for it. So I sold it for $260 and carry my Hinderer XM24, and picked up Spyderco Paramilitary 2 blue g10 and m390.

I got it for the steel, but its just too long and to me, just didn't look and feel right. It didn't have the heft I enjoy on the XM24 for a 4" knife. I do love a Para2, so that in effect replaced it.

Hinderers...XM-18 3" Slicer and 3.5" Spanto grind. I bought and sold both within two or three weeks. One was too short in the handle for me; the other was too "massive." Great knives...I mean it, just not for me.
Strider SMF is too massive for me. And I like titanium (CRKs) better than Strider G10/titanium. I like the SJ75 and the PT, however.
I have owned and sold a 0550 and 0551 also...that were just too big. I'm a VERY casual user; I don't cut anything harder than cardboard, and I don't want to EDC a heavy knife...which to me, is any knife over about 5.2 ounces or so, or with a handle that's thicker than about 0.520".
Okay, so what do I like...if I don't like the best? I like a large Sebenza, PM2, Kershaw JYD, Spyderco Brad Southard.

A $100 Remington R3333 off ebay. When I got it, it had a wobble in the main blade. I must be more careful on ebay knives.
