What is the STRONGEST/TOUGHEST Folder?

BM 42. Yes its a bali but it is strong as all get out when latched.

You might be able to get a used hd emerson for under 200. Now that is a tough knife!!!!

I'd take a look at the Ka-Bar Mule. It's way under your price range and only has AUS-8, but the thing's built like a tank. Zytel handles with steel liners and rubber inserts, thumb stud, and the partial serrations on mine cut thru anything I can throw at them. Definitely one of the toughest production knives I've ever seen.

Get a Doug Ritter Grip. S30v steel axis lockand it is touted as a survival knife.I have the Ritter Mini Grip in M2 and it is a very nice knife.Right in your price range too. They also come serrated now.

Spyderco Military, Ritter Grip, etc. are not suitable for heavy prying and I doubt Hossom would promote his design for such either. You are looking at something like the ER designs, a Greco, etc. . You are looking for something of at least 3/16" thickness without a severe distal taper and optimally with a decent tool steel and a very strong pivot construction. If you intend to use the knife for such work you also have to pretty much throw out the idea of playless lockup.

It sounds like you want a sharpened pry bar with a strong lock. Two come to mind and both are way over the price I'm sure you are looking for. Cliff already mentioned them. The Extreme Ratio folders.

I have a BenchMade HK34 and it is a very strong lock but the blade is 1/8" although it is a good wide blade you are not going to get far prying with it. The lock is second to none though.

It has thicker stainless liners too so there is no worries about the HK falling apart on you under load.

Others to consider are the Buck Strider Mini 881 if you can still find any. Yes its a liner lock but a damn strong one. Actually if one was so inclined it would be very possible to do a cut out on the G10 handle behind the liner and basically convert it to a frame lock so your fingers wrapped in behind the lock which for all practical purposes would increase the security of the lock many times over.

The blade on the Buck Strider 881 is 4.5mm thick and the liner and lock are .065 thick titanium. The pivot pin is what is known as a bull pivot that is extra thick and stout. For a 4" closed knife it is a stout little tank of a folder liner lock or not.

That is a good question. You would have to ask the Strider guys. I believe they will serrate one of thier knives for you.(If I remember correctly.) Strider knives are above the budget that you orginially mentioned. How about a Spyderco Military? Here are the S30V Spyderco's: http://spyderco.com/catalog/list.php?blade=CPM-S30V Or one of the Ontario/Hossom Retribution folders.http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/s...=eqCATE CODEdatarq=ONT&eqKEYWORDdatarq=hossom

seems like the ontario has a thick round handle, doesnt it?

The Ontario feels great in the hand!! I had the opportunity to handle both of th Retributions at Blade. They are big, beefy knives. They are thick rounded micarta handles. They are VERY comfy in the hands, and I have small hands. And ER that was being refered to is Extrema Ratio knives. http://www.italianblade.com/enteronlinecatalog.aspx

I don't know much compared to these guys over here and it doesn't have the steel you want it's AUS 8A, but otherwise it is by far the most solid folder I've ever handled. The Kabar Mule.

Of course it's way below your price range and the action is pretty stiff but you can break it and snap it open no problem. That thing is rock solid and indestructible.

thsoe extrema knives are pretty expensive, plus not many places even want to carry them. For the ontario, how thick is the handle? and is it made for more tactical/outdoor, or for just casual use.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that the Retributions have no pocket clips!! Sorry about that!!

I would check out a Zero Tolerance 0200 designed by Ken Onion. After reading the specs in the first post this knife came to mind. The 0200 has a
.160" blade of 154CM, .080" 410 stainless liners, 3D machined G-10 scales, 1/4" diameter SOLID pivot shaft, 4-40 handle screws, dual .3125" diameter thumbstuds and it has a flipper. (manual action) All for $160!!! Production has just started so not that many are on the streets now, but keep an eye out for this one.

when does that come out.. Wow striders are so expensive...

Maybe you should take a look at BM 630,635? Both frame locks, S30V steel, Ti handles...but yes, no serrations here. I think these are pretty tough too. :)
