What is the STRONGEST/TOUGHEST Folder?

In the price range you are looking at, get an Al Mar SERE 2000. Solid knife that can handle most tasks well. Or, save your pennies and get the real deal in tough folding knives.....

i wonder if i could get a pocket clip on the retribution, what do you guys think? Also, how does the N690Co steel of it compare to 154cm and s30v?

also, I called the al mar rep and they said there has never been any improvements on the sere 2000

The fit of the liner lock has improved since they first came out. Many of the early ones did not always lock up, hence the complaints on their lockup.

Yes, there have been a few posts of people fitting clips on their Retributions. N690Co is like RW34L in that it is similar to 154CM and ATS34 with cobalt added. I think that it is much like S30V IMHO.

I don't have anything in S30V, but as far as I know N690 is a bit softer than 154CM, it has better corrosion resistance and easier to sharpen. Maybe N690 is somewhat tougher but I'm not shure. These three steels are both more than adequate for a very nice folder. There are no significant difference between them if the blade profile and the heat treat is right.

For 250 or so you could get a utility folder from steve shiffer. He's making me one with .125 liner lock and the blade is O1. I'm interested to see how it turns out it should be a tough knife! Then again going away from SS opens a whole new can of worms!

I beg to differ. RWL34 is something like CPM154CM, and it is really in the same family as S30V and ATS34, but N690 is nuch closer to VG10 or 440C with added cobalt. According to my experiences, it is kinda close to 12C27, but stays sharp much longer.

The BM Monochrome is a best buy in N690 at $40. If you like something beefier then look no further than the Manix. It's a beast and worth every dollar. :D

If you like lockbacks, the Manix and Chinook seem pretty obvious.

Here's a framelock I find to be pretty stout I don't know if anyone's mentioned, but the Blue/Green Bump is a titanium S30V framelock that's pretty tough.

. . .The most abusive? All i can think of lets say a life or death situation where I need to extreme the blade for maybe cutting through something really hard or using it to hold something up or away from me. Thats the most extreme that I may never get to but its nive to think that it will be there for me in that way just in case, you know...

I'd follow-up as to what some have already mentioned; EXTREMA RATIO.
