What is this?

It is a power hammer . It looks like there were die plates that sat on the anvil, as well. It is neat, but may not be all that useful for knifemaking unless you have a good machine shop and lots of skills to refurbish it. It also will take a fork lift and a lowboy trailer to move it.

Offer $100 and see what they say. After spending another several hundred to move it you will have a neat piece of yard art.

I merged the multiple threads.

Very cool & unique power hammer, have seen one in the book "Pounding Out The Profits".

I'd buy it myself, if had the opportunity...

looks like it's in relatively decent shape, if only a little dirty. If it actually runs, I'd say that a few hundred bucks would be a decent deal, and leave plenty of room to make some money back if you don't think you could use it.

Start at $100 and see what they say.

My dad believes it will work, he said if it didn't they would have scrapped it a long time ago. So hopefully it does. I asked him about transporting it and he said we could use their trailer and fuel to transport it, so I would just be out the money to buy it. He's going to make some calls today and Monday and see if we can't get it for $100. I sent him a video of one like it in action and we both agreed it's pretty neat. It's not like the other power hammers I've seen but if it works then it works.

If you don't get it, let me know and I'll go get it.

That thing is just way to cool. I would like to own. I don't have room for a 3rd hammer but would be very interested in trading for a 40lb trip air. its based on the old 100lb big blue.

You'd be crazy to miss out on that piece of functioning mechanical history!

I knew once I posted this up here you boys would get all jealous and what not. It's not mine yet but hopefully next weekend we can sneak down there on Saturday and pick it up. Do you guys think I could use it and benefit from it? I went to a guy's shop a couple weeks ago and he could get a Bowie shaped to probably 90% with his little giant in like 5 min tops. That's what I'm hoping I can accomplish with it.

You would be Much better off with a traditional type power hammer for blade work. Take Cliff Parker up on his trade offer for a 40 lb air hammer, you'd be crazy not to!

Man I will be honest I don't know how fast or what size it is but I bet it would do it faster and with a whole lot higher cool facter than that trip air I mentioned.

Question Don? Do ya think ya need to pour a pad for Anvil or maybe use wood timbers like my hammer sits on ? To lazy for pouring slabs.

It's a pretty short list of things I wouldnt do to own that machine and a 500 LB ANVIL, Do I need a 500LB anvil, No, Do I need a Hummer or a Corvette, No, But I sure would like to own all three some day ;0)

Probably make damascus or forging down large stock faster, but not as good for forging blades to shape.

I don't think it needs a slab, with the anvil that large and the hammer head not so huge.

I already have too many power hammers. I don't need it, but somebody that forges needs to get it. Just sayin and stuff...

Don if I get it and get it set up you can make a day trip up here and check it out. I live in Sedalia, only about 3 hours from you. I've been to bill millers shop down in Warsaw a couple times and messed around. I don't have much now, but I'm still a wee young chap.

Then be a wee lad with a new hammer and anvil in your shop! Listen to these guys, even at several hundred dollars you are stealing that bad boy!
