What is with the passionate aversion for shipping to Canada?

I don't like it because of the shipping costs, and most of the time, the buyer doesn't want to pay them

I find this to be untrue most of the time. Every international transaction I've done the buyer has stated up front they will pay all shipping charges. Most international buyers have so few options they are willing to pony up the dough to ship, and most if not all are aware of their country's policies in regards to sharp objects. The customs form literally takes 2 minutes to fill out and does not require you to go to the post office. I've packed, printed, and shipped several international packages without even setting foot in the post office. The bottom line is its an unwillingness to deal with a few more steps, and that's each sellers prerogative. But me, I'd rather ship to a buyer who will pay right away, rather than lower my price everyday for a week to get it sold to a US buyer.

This does sum it up.
Thanks MasterPisaster, I'm guessing you like Rush?

I just don't like Canada.

This is good enough reason for me. Also, shipping to Canuckistan is a PITA. Tighten the pivot, then cross your fingers and sacrifice a chicken on hoping it gets where it's going with any speed. I have family that live ten hours away in C-stan, shipping them a small package costs an arm and a leg, and takes two weeks to eleventeen years to get there. I can order a product from Taiwan and select the slowest (free) shipping option and get it to my door in half the time from the other side of the planet.

C-stan ain't worth the time. I do like the poutine, though. It sounds dirty and tastes like heart disease . . . yum. ;)

I get annoyed at times as well with people not shipping up here. For about $25(includes tracking and insurance) and 5 mins extra work, which Im willing to compensate for, sellers still don't want to do it. Ive offered up to 20% more for a knife + shipping/PP fees and still wouldn't go for it. Yet you have sites like GPknives that will ship here no problem and I have only been dinged with customs like twice which Im fine with. It would be nice to get more of the deals seen here on the exchange. Everyone Ive dealt with here that has shipped here has been absolutely wonderful and I thank them for that. Please don't let hearsay or 1 bad experience make you damn a country :P

My ball. My Game...I'm taking my ball and going home.

It also such when you find out about a seller who does everything possible to go the extra mile to make customers happy and has an absolutely great site with great inventory, and they don't ship out of the US :(

*cough* Kershawguy *cough*

this is for you :D

I know there are folks who don't mind dealing with us Canucks, and thanks to them, but one word does keep coming to mind after reading this thread...LAZY.
Cheers

I work in shipping so I know what's involved. If you think doing extra work for the same money is lazy then I have some work I need done around the house. I'll pay you to mow the lawn and then call you lazy when I tack on some extra stuff that you refuse to do without getting paid more for it. LOL ;)

Can't seem to place where I had stated that anyone do anything for free. I had stated that such deals be negotiated as such.
BUT having said that, if you really did need help, and couldn't afford the going rate, I would step up. I have helped many people in need.
I'm thinking you should read my posts here.

my parents would call me lazy if I didn't mow the lawn or any other chores for free :D sellers can always ask a bit more on top of the asking price and shipping to compensate the extra effort

BFC exchange rules (or at least expected practice as explained by mods in GB&U) say that it's on the seller if a shipped package doesn't arrive. I'm simply not willing to eat the cost of an expensive knife confiscated by Canadian customs officers.

If our customs kept a knife that you had sent me, I would insist on covering it.
Cheers

I had customs lose a lockbar stabilizer that was in the box with the knife I ordered. I asked the seller if it was in the box when he shipped which he said it was so I took all responsibility even though he was willing to find another and ship it to me. It wasn't his fault since he shipped the knife properly, customs just opened the box and I assume the LBS fell out and went unnoticed when the box was resealed. It was on my end that it happened so I said not to worry about it.

Hey Blade-fiend,
Looks like we might have a storm tonight. I'm in Newmarket

I want to preface this with NO OFFENCE because i think BF is one of the best forums I post on and you're all cool guys.

But, it seems that a lot of you are just uneducated on how international shipping works. There are people from the states who are saying fully and truthfully that they have never had an issue mailing to Canada. There are people from Canada saying they have never had an issue getting a package. I don't think there is a single Canadian on this forum who, in the event you told him "I'd like you to cover the extra 10 bucks" would say no. In a trade situation, keep in mind we are paying the same amount.

I completely and totally respect someones choice to not want to mail something to Canada, my problem lies within their reasoning. If it genuinely takes you an hour to go to the post office, you should really check out online printing of shipping labels. I didn't get as much conclusion out of this thread as I hoped but it seems a lot of you guys are a little stubborn haha. Aren't we all though?

That's good of you.

But we have too many threads in this forum of sad stories of deals overseas gone bad. It does scare off legitimate sellers.

I don't mind shipping outside the US. I've done so more than once, and the extra trouble is minor. But citing businesses that do it is meaningless. Of course they have the rules down pat, they know what's legal, what carriers are preferred, how to fill out forms.

I would encourage everyone to consider shipping to legitimate buyers or traders. But it has to be their own choice. We're still trying to educate people to sell to overseas US, like Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico. Same USPS, same price. The term CONUS should be tossed out, it is usually used incorrectly,

nice to see more Canadians here :)

you might want to edit that out unlimitednights, cussin stays in whine and cheese :P

This was not my experience. The customs form requires the signature of a post office employee. The only ones here that sign them, are in line at the Post office. My mail carrier will not, and will not pick up the package.
