What is your dream KMG attachment?

Here is some pictures. Basic idea is that you attach xy table to the MAP Arm and bolt a magnetic chuck to the x-y table.

We need to find how to keep a working surface parallel to the wheel and how to adjust how much cut will be taken.
One way to do it is to attach xy table to the Map Arm via a hinge and use a fine screw to move xy table with the work piece "to" and "from" the wheel.
I just don't know if we can find a ready made hinge without any play in the axis.

Michael, please let me know what do you think about it.

- I have a series of holes, D&T, along the vertical edges of the support jig, so that I can always adjust the angle of the blade to get proper grind line.

- To clamp the blade to the jig, instead of C-clamp, I use locking pliers. HF
stores carry them for dirt cheap .

Using that jig when grinding does make one feel less of man

No but I do feel smart enough to get a perfict grind
with 75 cents of scrap steel.

Its an interesting idea. I have some ideas. I will email you in a few.

UPDATE:

I have all the parts in my Garage and I am currently doing the machining that is left and putting them together.
I am estimating that the first of the MAP Arms will start shipping on Wednesday of next week.

I found that I had to open up about 2000 holes and debur a few more but I am very pleased with the way these are looking.
I am STILL waiting for the labels to get here and it looks like that might be another week so I dont want to hold up shipping for those.
I will send all the label seperatly unless you want me to hold your MAP Arm untill I get them.
I will post some pics later tonight of the assembly process. Thanks everyone for being so patient.

Alexmin - Im sorry I didnt get back to you the other night, Could you please call me again? I lost your number from my phone.

Thanks
Michael

Nice! thats some serious machining you have been doing! only child labour could pull that kind of assembly off! ;)

Thats my Son Adam, He was working his little fingers to the bone today.
I was very proud of how hard he worked , he put together 21 receiver assemblies in 4 hours today. Hes a good kid.

I had the machining done at a machine shop but I found I had to open up all the 1/2" holes and open up and deburr all the 5/16" holes on the reciever plates.

I still have alot more to do but I got a good start today.

Here's one of the labels I just picked up.

Well let me tell you how I spent my Sunday night. I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up my MAP arm! I can sum this up in one word. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO.:D Yes that is one word. The attachment looks like it was made with the grinder not for it. Every detail is well thought out. Mike spent time showing me his MAP arm on his setup and I am having a tough time remembering everything he told and showed me that it will do. There are so many large and fine adjustments that it should be able to do about anything that most of us could need. I have not been able to get it set up yet but Sat in the AM nobody should be between my shop and me. I will look forward to all the upcoming posts about the new ideas.

A little about Mike. I am a newbe and he was very helpful and answered several (probably too many) questions. He helped me with hollow grinding. He even let me grind a blade and was very patient with me. I was there I am sure longer that he thought but the time was extremely valuable to me and I cannot thank him enough. He told me he intends to get the arms shipping ASAP. The amount of work and research that went into this is immeasurable. I thank Mike for the MAP arm and the class room time and I will look forward to seeing him at the Chicago show.
