Howdy,

What is your EDC and Outdoors Small Utility Folder?

Is it the same for both EDC and the Great Outdoors?

I have previously carried a Ka-Bar Dozier Thumb Notch folder, takes a wicked edge and has a nice sharp point. But, lately, it just has not felt right.... I think it is because the clip died....

What do you carry? And if you have an image, even better....

Any suggestions.... ????

Your requirements might be different, but I find that I like a stainless steel (since it sits in the bottom of a potentially wet pocket), and I really prefer an acute point (for the small delicate cuts). I prefer smaller and more narrow, think Spyderco Caly 3 not Chinook III, or Cold Steel Kudu not Pocket Bushman. And lighter in weight.

What do you all think?

I rotate 2, Spyderco Paramilitary in D2 and a Ritter Grip in S30V. They do everything I want a folder to do in town or in the backcountry.

an almost constant EDC of mine is a Case large stockman in CV. i just about always have it.

in the woods i rarely even think of it, since i have my knife on my belt that is much quicker to hand, but it is there if i need it.

leftmost knife in this group:

These days I'm either carrying a Large Stockman, AG Russell pocket carver, or a Mini-grip. Most of the time it's the mini-grip that makes into the woods with me.

Fallkniven U2 and TK4. After i got those two, i`ve shelved all my other folders, including oodles of victorinox/wengers, opinels and leathermans. I`ve found that i don`t need the extra stuff on them often enough to warrant carrying them. If i need something with more gadgets, i grab my leatherman juice XE6, which for me is everything i`d need in EDC.

In town I usually carry a Tidioute 2-blade Scout.
Outdoors I usually carry a Paramilitary in S30V.

I just find too many times when a locking blade is useful outdoors. I really need to look into one of GEC's locking models.

Then again, that Paramilitary is the bee's knees. What a great folder. I do need an STR lowrider clip for it though. The stock clip's kinda crap.

As far as folders go my Farmer and my Endura are never far from my hand, town or country. Chris

I like various Spydercos but I am very fond of a little Moki. It is extremely comfortable to use either way up. It works great in the hand and what with it being so light you can pretty much palm it out the way with two fingers leaving the index, long and thumb free to work without letting go of it. It has a pleasing taper and ends at a very fine point. Precise intricate cutting is the the forte of this one. I don't always need strength or cutting through power. The very sharp full height hollow grind on this and the FRN frame suits me nicely for those times.

If there is a single pitfall it is that I wish they'd made the thumb stud look a little nicer.

Mine is in this thread

I usually carry a Kershaw Skyline as an EDC, but lately I've been prone to carrying the Spyderco Tenacious.

Outdoors though, away from the insanity of NYC, I carry the Benchmade Mini Rukus.

Despite its looks this is a great outdoors folder

I have many folders....Each one has done woods duty and I will end up with a SAK in my hand more than anything else when in the woods...no matter what else i am packing in my pocket.

Well, seeing as though a mini-Grip is clipped to my pocket all the time these days, it sort of goes everywhere. I also always have a SAK Classic in my pocket and, usually, a Squirt P4 multitool. But when I go hiking there are other folders in my packs. One has a Trekker, one has a Farmer, and the other has a Buck 501 (soon to be retired and replaced with a SAK Champ Plus). They all also have a spare Classic in each as I use the Classic more than anything else that doesn't require serious cutting. It's the most perfect letter opening, teeth maintaining, fingernail grooming, and thread cutting tool yet devised. :)

My EDC and outdoor carry have usually been the same. But now I have a indoor/office/lab job so I've done a change-up.

I still use an AG Russell Hunters Scalpel (not a folder) for hiking, but if when headed to work I drop a Schrade 34OT Old Timer in my jeans pocket. And I still have an Opinel in my work bag.

SAK Farmer everyday, all day. My Project W rides IWB, or in my pocket as well, but thats a fixed blade.

Bob, those mini-Grips (and the full size) are the shiznit. Mine's just a regular 154CM as opposed to the whiz-bang Cabelas or Ritter versions but it is an almost perfect small locking folder. I'd prefer less of a drop in the point but can live with it.

My EDC's are a Benchmade Ritter mini Grip and a Victorinox huntsman. I also have my David Farmer EDC fixed blade and Ritter Grip in my Jumbo bag.

I usually take my full size Ritter and SAK when I go hiking, but for a planned hike, I take my Victorinox one hand trekker with me, a predetermined larger folder, and a 3.5" to 4" fixed blade. If it is a day hike, which is rare at my size these days, I take a multitool.

I have been carrying my Strider SNG and PT on the weekends. They are thick for outdoors work IMO, but they are not as bad as some might think.

The 440C 551 Grips are some of the best I have seen. Took mine on many walks, great knife for carving walking sticks etc.
