I'm a patina guy, so I selected super blue. Would really like to get ahold of a Caly 3 in that particular material.

Our resident Tomboy sent me one to sharpen and I fell in love.

ATS34.
Not even listed in the poll. I remember when it was a super steel and the latest & greatest for knife blades.

ATS34 is a good blade. Even Shirogorov used it on earliest knives before and now they cost more then new stock with M390 and S90V.

I have no interest in any of those overrated and overpriced 'super steels'.

The knife I use daily at work is usually a S&W with 7cr17 steel and it has taken on just about every task as well as someone using a Syperco/Benchmade/<insert premium brand name> and an S30V blade for the same thing.

My favorites for folders would be CTS-XHP or Cmp154. I prefer steels that are well balanced while still being reasonable easy to sharpen. I prefer Infi in my fixed blades.

This made me realize there are so many steels i haven't tried yet, so I guess I will need to buy more knives. But based on this perhaps one with M390 will be next?

O1, 5160, 440C, and AUS-8 are some of my favorites. Guess they don't count.

YES they do !
There is something about 440C, even the color of the blade, that I always look forward to using.

I must concur sir(s).
Blows me away how good it is.
I look forward to trying real 10V

S110V ? ? ?
My one knife with that (poor thing) makes a first class paper weight since I would never pick it up if I had some serious work to be done.

If a dull knife is a dangerous knife this thing should probably be cordoned off with an armed guard to keep people away from it.:)

Take out 1095 and Super Blue and this poll becomes "what is your favorite stainless steel" while still leaven out a number of the most commonly used stainless steels.

I like several steels but the "kick" I am on now includes: 3V, INFI, SR101, 5160 and Z-Wear. The Z-Wear is very new to me so I cannot give an accurate rating yet, but have heard very positive things about it. For the rest I listed, they are all excellent in their own ways--I could not say one in my modest list is the "best" because it is all relative to the task I am performing.

CPM-3V - holds an edge, resists corrosion, and not as hard to sharpen as I thought it would be...

Not on the list but my favorite budget steel is Sandvik 14C28N. Great steel for the price.

I don't play favorites with steel. My "favorite" is any steel that is appropriately matched to a given design for its intended context of use and price point, and heat treated in accordance with those parameters.

There are a bunch of steels named that I could be happy with and some that aren't named. I often choose the area between 3V and 4V including Cruwear/PD#1/Vascowear etc. CPM M4hc and HAP 40, 52100, 10V and Super Blue round out my list of favorite every day user knives . My least favorite steel is 440C. I have no real use for this steel. It represents to me the worst thing about stainless steels all in one package. If I have to carry a stainless knife VG10, CPM 154 and S110V would be my choices.

This list is just not complete without my all time favorite steels :(

I've had awesome experiences with both r2d2 and c3po :)

Sorry, I had to! Lol I keep reading all these steels I never heard of and that's the first thing that comes to mind :P
